System Requirements Issue.

Believe it or not, I'm not running a stupidly over-powered machine, I get a pass on the minimum requirements and that's fine for me.. APART FROM ONE THING.

My GPU is ONE model down from the minimum one listed for NVid and that confuses me a bit. My card has 2.0 shader as required. 256mb on the card and it still fails. (FX 5500, QQ, got it for a DAOC update back in the day)

I'm upgrading the machine AFTER X-mas, think I'll be able to run it on the card? Not looking for uber gfx or anything like that, just to be able to run the game.

In regards to DAoC, I was able to handle full-scale RVR with this card with no major FPS loss (1gb RAM, 2.09GHz AMD processor, single core :()

· 2.5 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
· 1 Gigabyte RAM
· A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
· At least 15 GB of hard drive space

I have these things, yet they say my card is fail... So, will it run? :D

got the same OD, also same for STALKER, and a few other notable games like
NWN2 all fail on the same section. However, they both run really well on my ageing laptop, despite failing the minimum.
I dont mind sacrificing a few shinies to play the game I've waited for for years

£500 budget dead. (Give or take, depending on VAT/Next day delivery etc)

- I don't want to go with INTEL. (I have reasons, I know it's stupid. But.. :)

Bits I've picked out (Not sure on the mobo)

- Maxtor Diamondmax 22 500GB SATA-II 32MB
- AMD Phenom X4 Quad Core 9850 2.50GHz Black Edition (Socket AM2)
- Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe AMD 790FX (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
- Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI
- Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX
- Antec EarthWatts 500W PSU

TOTAL COST: (This is with all VAT added) £499.30

I'm going to be using a 19" monitor (which I've got) also will be formatting my current IDE drive to use as a backup.

IF I decide to go with INTEL, I'll change parts (Mobo/CPU mainly)

I heard 4gig ram is the optimum for gaming.
I'm no expert on systems but I would look to dropping down a bit in one area to accomodate for the extra 2gigs. Not sure though, anyone back me up?

Would either get a parent (NHS discount \o/) to get me Vista, or get a x64 XP

That sounds a fair budget system you will be able to run the game fairly high i would say . but untill ive run the game my self i couldnt say at what level for sure.

But make sure you run xp pro if you try and run vista on it you will lose alot of performance. as its a memory hungry monster

xp will only post 3 gig ram or maybe 3.5 gig as its built that way so you using 2 gig will be more then fine.

The only other thing i would say is running a quad cpu on the game may slow it down due to the calculations so when you play set the affinity of the game to run on just 2 cores then all shoul dbe ok. this may or maynot be a problem just something to think about when playing to try and increase your gaming.

once ive got to play the game i will be able to advise everyone who needs help with performance and certain tweaks.

untill then its looking good.

may as well show a pic of my rig while im here.

@Frosty: Nice setup, is 1 screen away from my ideal ;) What spec you running?
Also, regarding the OS, I'll most probably try and grab Vista , since I've changed the spec (only added £10 more for 4gb ram) so it should be fine.

4GB of RAM is worth it even in a 32-bit system because then you can max out a dual-channel RAM setup. You still won't see all 4GB of course but for RAM intensive apps like modern games it will help and it will be there if you want to run a 64-bit OS as a dual boot for anything else.

I really think you should stay xp pro vista will slow you down alot in gaming.
i had 4 gig ram on vista and upgraded to 8 gig as i was draining about 6-7 gig while gaming.

PLus vista is really not worth the money or the extra power it takes to run it.
in basic vista look pretty fullstop it has nothing else going for it.
xp will run anypc alot faster .

But with vista you get the bonus of dx10 but there is a working copy about of dx10 for xp. but there is no harm in trying vista and see how it goes for you

overdriven if ur going 4gb get vista 64bit, ppl really have noticed the diff and 4gbs runs vista smoothly with ur programs

the 4850 card is great altho it seems to run hot atm like 80c ish underload cause the fan gets stuck at 30%, but theres a fix for it already so if u notice its hot (can use gpu-z free download) just look for the update

im not sure on amd mobos but afaik that cpu is pretty good :)
that psu will be ok if ur not going for cf but if u are in the future keep it in ur mind, this PSU Calculator will help u out if u wanna be sure of ur power usage

hope thats covered it but can post again if u want anything else
