Swings and roundabouts

After a month or so on this forum, and asking a few questions etc, I decided that my shite connection and ping was due to a 'winmodem'. So, after following advice, today I purchased and fitted a Diamond Supraexpress 56e/i pro, internal modem.

Hurray:clap: ping down from 350 to a respectable 220. Oh joy, I actually enjoyed myself..................for about an hour, then it all went tits up:(

CL_flushentitypacket started popping up, ping in excess of 2500, dfinate problems.

I feel like:puke:

Went through the www.lagless.com procedure, and set the modem up as best I could, but could still only connect at 28000bps and when connected to BW servers, flush f*****g packet grabs me and screws me into the ground before I even get going:(

I know this has been addressed several times on this forum, but I am reaaaallllllly pissed off now.

Anyone got any ideas?

YOu just need to reconfigure things, incuding your cs config.

Err last few days have been fucked for the entire uk internet LINx to blame, and that could have been the reason too.

Unless you've put a modem initialisation command to limit it to 28000, then it sounds like you've got a problem with your line somewhere.
Maybe the connection box you plug your modem into, or just a crappy phone line.
You could try phoning BT and complaining, especially if you can hear any crackles or hiss on normal phone calls.

Hmmmm, BT repaired the line a couple of weeks ago, and I had them increase the gain last week. So I dont think thats the problem.
Ive just been looking at the Diamond website, and there is suppost to be a minimum clearence between the modem and any other perifs. Ive got a fan in there that may be a bit too close, so I'll try that when I get up this afternoon.

Only 6 hours till bed time.

You had Bt boost the gain? Oh dear, that causes soo many problems, its meant to improve your connection but will probably just make your line very noisy and crap.

/56e pro

I bought one of them back when they first came out. I could ping 100-150 in q2 when connected to my decent isp. I guess im talking about your isp, i don't know what it is, but i had to run my modem a few weeks back for a day, while my isdn line was borked. I played tfc and was pinging 130-160 hooked up to globalnet. Prolly your probs are all to do with your isp.

I think Im prety sorted now, pinging regularly at 180ish, which isnt perfect but as we all know, ping makes very little difference anyway...............lol.;)

Sounds like you have a DACS'd phoneline to me. I had a similar problem, after a bit of research i found my phoneline was DAS'd. What this means is that BT take one phoneline, and split it into 2 seperate lines using some cunning electrickery. This means that the maximum speed you will be able to connect with is 33kbps.. But more often that not it will be 28kbps.

Unfortunatly there is nothing you can do about it. I got arround it by having them install ISDN...

Anyway, to confirm this is the case, follow the line into your house and look for a fairly largish box, usualy black or white, with something like "DACS 2" written on it.

Hope this helps

Here's to you BT. :upyours:

Nah, thats not it, but to be honest, Im quite happy with my 180, certainly much better than the 350 I was getting a while ago.

But thanks for the help anyway.

180 regurlary is good, 150 is ideal and 120 is nirvana. But with 180 at least u are getting some stable gameplay. Welldone.

ISDN mate, I live in the Isle of Man. I have ISDN and it is amazing. My ISP is manxclick (only in the Isle of Man) and I get pings of 30-70 and i am very pleased with it. Download speeds of about 8K/sec. And that is all with me connected at single band 64K. When connected at dual band 128K my ping is 30-60 (not much difference) but download speeds of around 14k/s. Other ISDN users i have met while playing CS have pings of about 80, I think that is to do with the Isle of Man being, well... empty. But it is so value for money, £12.50 a month for unmetered access and the ISDN line rental nothing else. And i dont even pay for it. There are some 56K packages which are the same kind of deal for £15 a month but that is so lame compared to what I have. Installation was relatively cheap as well, ISDN modem was around £50. In the end it is pretty decent.

OMG, somewhere that is krappier than the Isle of Man, NFW. U cant get ISDN? I pretty much live by if u cant get cable get adsl, if u cant get adsl get ISDN, if u cant get ISDN than ur fucked. Feel sorry for u. Isle of Man is like 3rd world country.

Does anyone take into account that some people have stuff like "call waiting" and the beep that sends down the phone can often lag the hell out of the connection and in some cases disconnect you. Speaking from experience.

A funny one I get is 'modem does not detect dial tone'

All it is is the customers voicemail is giving a stuttered dial tone. More common than call waiting.

anything indeed, i dont want to tell u some stories about wat ive done while sipping the Russian fire water. Maybe if i drink some ill tell u sometime. One story which is mild enough to tell here is when my friend was pissed, he needed to piss so he just stood there as if he was gonna piss his pants, and he was, we showed him to the bathroom and then he started to piss in the sink while he was still wearing his pants. :puke:
