Sven Co-op hurts my brain!

On Dan200's recommendation I gave this a go tonight (only had time for 10 mins or so) and it was... bizarre.

I spent a good minute trying to frag this green monster until I realised he was actually an ally.

We all spent 9 mins running around, smacking each other and security guards (which appear at the flick of a switch) around with crowbars. All am00sing stuff, but there was nobody to actually kill. I asked if the enemy was going to turn up soon and peeps just said 'not yet...'

Eventually this big, BIG scrotum on legs appeared without warning and killed me, very quickly. Then the next map loaded.

I'll give it another go tomorrow but so far... bizarre.

Okay, this just gets weirder...

Next map is a huge pit with a row of buttons outside where you control what aliens go in the pit, with some transporters to get you in there.

Very funny stuff, watching your team-mates trying to take on the entire Half-Life monster range. Particularly as one of them had a Homer Simpson skin.

I'm assuming there's no real point to this mod, except to have a larf?

theres a few good maps that are quite interesting to play but mainly this mod is lacking any great maps.

Playin the single player was ok but too easy and there was alot of telefrags as theres only one spawn point.

v2.0 looks promising

OK summo, it appears you have been very unlucky in your map selections, lemme explain....

1) The first time you played is, by the sound of it, Osprey, now, its a great map and all, with lots of grunts falling out of helicopters and all, but it has one major bug, once someone destroys the transport Helicopter (Osprey), it crashes, and, once the grunts die, there are none left and you have to wait around for up to 10 minutes, which is no fun (aside from killing the Barneys and the Gonarch d00d (big, BIG scrotum on legs) every five minutes). This bug will be fixed in Svencoop 2.0

2) Ok, the second map you describe is by far my least favourite of them all, it appears in two versions, Stadium-2 and Stadium-f, Avoid these maps at all costs!!!

So, you were unlucky! I can assure you most of the other maps are far better with storylines, objectivess, huge grunt battles, giant monsters and all sorts. Just try a few!

As for bees problem with the Limited maps, go download all of the custom maps and mappacks (Takes about 1/2 an hour altogether) from the main
Svencoop files page (btw, if ya like the Homer skin, download the Model pack on the same page, a lotta ppl use these and theirs quite a variation!). Anyway, the reason i reccomend these is that, unlike CS, D0D et all, a lot of servers (if not all) do run these maps, i particually recommend the Operation Redemption Series.

The best examples of these servers (for us UK gamers) are...

and my mates server (Which I admin)...

Both of which (along with the Blueyonder server, which does not run custom maps) will give you fairly decent pings 80% of the time (Tho svencoop is by default a fairly laggy game).

As for your final question, yes, Svencoop is all about social interaction and having fun and a laugh with ya mates, and therefore lacks the seriousness of CS and DOD.

Roll on Svencoop 2.0!!!!

I quite enjoyed the two maps I played actually. Never seen anything like it before. Thanks for the extensive info, me old mucka, particularly the server IPs. Don't seem to be very many on All-Seeing Eye.

I've since played a few others which have clearly had a proper plan, story and so on. All good fun, though the lag bumps right up once there's a few baddies on. I'll persevere with it as it does look like a larf but DoD is my home right now.
