Surely I should be able to run 2 accounts without lag

I have been trying to run 2 accounts on 1 pc and cannot understand why the background account is always lagged (usually middle perf meter yellow/red and right hand meter red)

This means I cannot use /stick on second account as the char in background lags too far behind. My system is:

Win 2k pro desktop 1280 x 960 (2 a/cs windowed size 1152x856)
P4 2.4ghz
1,310 mb ram (2x512 DDR 333mhz, 1x256 DDR 266mhz)
direct x 9.0
geforce 4 Ti 4200 128 mghz
512 kps ntl cable broadband.

Not sure what other info ppl may need, but if you ask I can let you know :)

Any help how to improve things or what systems ppl use successfully & how the accounts are set up (eg effects / water settings, etc. ...) will be much appreciated. Just a pain not being able to use second account for anything other than a char sitting on arse not moving.

Oh btw I can alt tab between accounts with no problem, then the new front window perfs all go green and the background drop to yellow and red.

Thanks in advance :)

Hmm pretty much the PC I have and even with all settings on minimal I cant get the second account to stick to the first.

Get a Hyperthreading enabled version of the P4 this basically gives you the ability to use /stick on the second account without them ever lagging off.

Ah, thanks for the info. My mobo (gigabyte ga-8sg800)does support HT, but I believe only on the 3.06ghz processor.

Do not think I am addicted enough to the game to warrent splashing out on a new processor (and does HT require XP?)

Hey ho, just have to survive with a laggy background account I guess.

OK, short version: it's a souped up version of the chip (ie. a hardware improvement). The new architecture makes it easier for the thing to run multiple processes in parallel efficiently.

It basically allows the processor to fake being 2 virtual CPUs, so applications which were designed for multi-processor scaling will be able to run faster. How much performance you gain depends heavily on the application you are running.

This is what intel have to say about it (they call it HT Technology):

Or:

It makes running 2 programs easy.

Erm, I thought that if you had 2 accounts running on the same machine, you can't /stick with the latter account to the driving account because of internal lag that is produced via the processor.
Which is why whenever I tried, my 2nd account would stay with my 1st account aslong as I moved slowly, otherwise it would lose stick after about 10 seconds.

I believe its because the Game.dll takes 98%+ processor power when being used - Therefore using a HT/dual processor system if the 1st game.dll is using max then the other kicks in to "spread the load"

Try ctrl-alt-del and set both game.dll's to low priority.
