Subcription costs - A deal breaker?

Had already decided not to play the game, but I doubt it would be a deal breaker if I truly wanted to play the game.
However I do think the higher Euro vs US prices are a rather low blow.

Doesn't seem that expensive to me tbh. Then I only have Eve as a comparison. It's a shame they have US & Euro servers as it probably means I won't be able to buy GTCs in $$ :p

Anyways if the kiddies think it's too pricey that's a good thing!

Personally I don't like the fact we have to pay extra due to VAT that should be included in the price like WoW and other EU MMOs do.

Still we'll see what happens once the beta starts this evening.

Could also be that it is all those earn their own money that thinks it is too pricey and all the kiddies who get theirs from mom n' dad who just shell out regardless . :touch:

well tbh mmo prices been around the 8 quid mark for fair few years now so it stands to reason its going to go up at some point frankly a tenner aint that much i mean 2 quid extra a month is hardly gonna break the bank

Maybe, but if £10 puts you off then I worry about what job you have :), I generally pay around £10-£20 for single player games. If they're more I wait till they come down in price - they certainly don't have the time sink that MMOs do.

All in all, it's a case of deciding on an individual level whether it is worth the cash. I buy the game, I play it, if I enjoy it I will play another month, etc..
For what can amount to 100 hours of play depending on how much I like the sunshine, that's 10p an hour.

Still far better value than video rental or purchase. Anyway will decide if its worth it after the free month. Currently have 2 DAOC subs and 2 WoW subs which I plan on canceling.

News: How much will Age of Conan dent your wallet? - ComputerAndVideoGames.com

Sub costs are in and players apprently 'failing' AoC already before it's even started stating 'it's too expenive compeared to WoW/LOTRO', have they not seen another MMO? :twak:

Is it really a deal breaker - or just an excuse not to play it?

Some people will whinge about anything, if it wasn't subs, it'd be something else.

I think it's great, personally those kind of players are the ones I for one could well do without having to put up with :)

its not that unusual, it came in a year or so ago, paying for games online in UK is subject to vat, on the subs cost, hence why its £XX + tax

its shite, but its also required :(

Most anoying thing is when you start chatting and hear something like this about Europe:
"its something near Britain no?, and France is there, no?"

To be fair when i played on the US servers in DAOC there were quite a few nice people, its just the yehaaw morons were rather noisy :)

main reason i'm going to the us servers is to play with some friends i made when i was playing daoc on the us servers. if not for that, i'd probably still try out the eu version. I just see the subs thing as a little bonus for me :)

It's not bad, pretty competitive with other MMOs around. And what's 10£? Like an hours worth of work, for 30 days of fun?

Naa - I had already decided to not play prior to the cost being released, and as I mentioned in my first post, the cost would not be something deterring me; however I'm not everybody and the post was generalizing so I answered generalizing :p

My main annoyance with these prices however is the large difference between the US prices and the EU prices. But seeing as I'm not gonna play I don't care much, lest it becomes a trend to not only overcharge Europeans but also give us worse service :D

Well 27.95 for a 60day GTC isn't really ripping my testies off.

Comes down to less then 50 cents a day.

Not to mention, you probably save more money when you eat/drink/go out less.

One bar night less in 4 months and you're set for the GTCs :D

Is this just a British currency thing? Asfar i remember pretty much every MMO is around 12-13€ so can't really see big difference

The difference is that you ll have to pay 15 EUR per month if you have a subscription running in EUR.

14€/month actually, if you have the sense to look around for cheap GTC.

So it's quite the same as any highclass MMO.

OK, I ll go into more detail. The following pricing is for 1 month subs. You can go cheaper with 3 (14 EUR) and 6 (13 EUR) months subs. GTCs might come in different flavors. The only one I saw was a 60day one.

US version = 15 US Dollar = ~9,70 EUR
UK version = 10 British Pounds = ~12,70 EUR
EU version = 15 EUR = teh sukk

//edit: BTW, which MMO has 14 EUR/month sub costs? The ones I played lately always fell into the 13 EUR bracket.
