I have been up all night revising, im tired as fuck and maths was never my strong point. I got thinking of the marking system for my course.

Ok lets say three bits of school work are marked thus

Piece 1 = you get 77%
Piece 2 = you get 88%
Piece 3 = you get 63%

These three parts represent 30% of the final mark

Exam = you get 54% for the Exam

Exam represents 70% of the final mark

You must get 60% AVERAGE for the whole course to pass

How the heck do you work that out?

77 + 88 + 63 = 76

76 x 0,3 = 22,8

54 x 0,7 = 37,8

22,8 + 37,8 = 60,6

I think :p

77 + 88 + 63 = 76 * 3 = 228

54 * 7 = 378

378 + 228 = 606

606/10 = 60.6

Tuthmes' one is cooler, though ;)

EDIT: Infagrinn's one is even more cool :p

Nah not my marking system:

I got

bit 1: 85%
bit 2: 70%
bit 3: 42% :(

Total average grade: 65.6

Thats 20% of the final grade so thats: 13.33% towards the final mark

Exam was today, its 80% of the final mark so I need: 34% in the exam to get over 40% which is the total grade needed for most first/2nd year courses.

I think I should be fine

if not hellllllllo resists :(

Ahh brings back memories of playing DAOC instead of studying.
I remember those 40% pass marks. They felt kind of insulting on a degree course.

Ya lessons learnt for 2nd year, esp if i want to go on the year abroad, you need a 60% average for that

Good luck! :drink:

Btw I think the 'resists' instead of resits was a freudian slip...you're secretly hoping if the result doesn't come back in your favour you can say "Hey F**ker, I resisted that score. Bring me back a new number!" :D

Hate Maths. If the grades I get are slightly higher than the ones I wrote down, I should come out with 21/22% of 30% for this year, which is quite nice.

Work levels will boost in 3rd year and will hopefully get 60% overall next year, coming out with a high 70% in total for the overall module, ending in a First. WOuld be nice, but then I just failed the IBM IPATO test which was stupid levels of maths..

I've tended to find it's either..

Maths is simple.
Maths is impossible.

Depending on if your brain is wired in the right way. Either you just see it or you don't. If you don't see it you can parrot most stuff to get the grades up to A-level without that much difficulty (assuming you can remember stuffz), but you'll never work it out if you don't have the example version to copy.
