So i've learnt from my experience, and my point of view.

You have to dedicate some years of your life to studying, revising and perfecting a career.

Or be in training/apprentice etc.

So i'm going to study something. I don't know what or when but where to start?

Feel like i'm back at school again.

How to decide what i want to become? What career path to take? Where to start. Lulz.

Thx

I guess you could start by looking for places you can study at that are local, assuming you don't want to move. Then find out what courses these places have on offer and go from there.

I think you should start your own school. Drug dealer school!

surely you have *some* interests? start there, and visit school/college/academy open days and stuff.

I'm going to an open day at a higher technical school on the 17th and tbh I'm shitting bricks.

I have interests aye.

But i don't want to choose the wrong career then regret it 6months in and realise i've wasted my time.

I'd like to work in some sort of legal department, law...Not saying i'm gonna study to be a barrister. Maybe group 4 security, custody security.

Some sort of goverment etc.

Also, i have one conviction on my record which will set me back. It was YEARS ago, i met the victim after the conviction, apologised in person under the supervised rules etc.

What ways (if any) can you get this squashed? Like could i speak to a judge in court and offer to repay by serving the community with 100 hours community service etc?

Imo there are no wrong paths really. I don't know what it takes to get into g4. You may want to consider going to a police recruitment open day, just to experience what enforcement people are looking for.

If you have no idea at all, the first thing to do is to get as much information as you can. Go and talk to the g4 people if they have an office near you, or call them and ask for an information package. Big company like that, they're bound to have one.

Ofc they may tell you things you aren't particularly keen on hearing like major study time or suchlike, but if you are really keen you'll have to suck it up dude.

In this day and age, with careers becoming redundant after a decade or being renamed by some political asshole. Doesn't matter you will do save being a nurse/lawyer/accountant or policeman. If you don't choose those, it prolly will end up being a mistake at some point in your life. Being expendable in today's and prolly the future job market, is everything to an employer.

My mate used to be a DJ. Thick as pig shit he is. Decided to study criminal law and 7 years later is now a partner in a firm on £200k+ a year. Hes dodgy mind, all his clients are big time drug dealers and hes been raided loads of times by the police but thats beside the point.

if he can do it, anyone can do it.

You're welcome ;)

Thing is though, I've noticed in particular is that everyone seems to jump on bandwagons. So in my early 20's, everyone went to uni to be a lawyer. Then it was my job computing, then again what i went to uni to do, psychology, and then journalism because everyone thought that being a journalist was the next best thing to being a celebrity. Last I heard it was plumbers. Peeps jump on that bandwagon thinking it is their solution because Joe Snot is making £xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx every week, and then because everyone else is doing it, the work dries up and then you are back to square one. Sorry but tis true ;s

if you like the topic you will study it well.
if you like the job at the end is another matter. you cant predict how the job will be like without observing it somehow first. even then it will be different depending on the employer.

the best way is to think of something you really like and imagine doing it every day untill your 68.

laddey only YOU can decide what u want to do in life
and people change careers when they're 40 and do things completely different
so don't be afraid to chop & change
you're still a youngster
find something you have a REAL interest in
then work out how you train to get there
do the training
and if it doesn't work out, no problem, try something else

I started off in law
now I'm an investment banker
but I'm thinking of becoming a motorbike instructor at some point when I've had enough

I've had a good think and this is what i'd really like to do tbh...

I've got experience with 'the street' should we say, i know the ins and the outs of chav/thug/criminal lifestyle.

I've overcome my bad lifestyle, i understood what the end result would of been. I can pass my knowledge onto other youngsters that are in the same situation that i WAS in.

I'd like to be a youth worker. I'd like to work with troubled teens who are heading down the wrong path and hopefully take pride in my work and take pride in the outcome.

If anybody knows about...well...the shit lifestyle, the council estates, drugs, basic chav stuff then it is certainly me. I'm not proud that i've been a cock the past few years, mainly 13-18/19.

I'd take great pleasure in seeing youngsters, who are in trouble with the law & street crime, and seeing a good outcome such as getting a good job, earning money and staying off the streets.

I think that will be my best bet. Thinking more and more about it i'm more interested in it. I'm definatly going to see this through.

One quick question...How would i go about doing this, any ideas? I seriously do not know where to start.

Thanks for your time, yet again people. You're always helpful. I love you all equally.

So social work then? You could do an education route or you could get involved with youth groups in the area.

Yes mate, you'll be aiming to be a social worker. Social care involves looking after the elderly or special needs, in the home for example.

Hello mate

Have you considered a trade like a Motor Mechanic or Engineering?
Or something in the building trade like Bricklaying, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrics etc?

I think its a bit trial and error finding out what you want to do. Maybe get a placement in different jobs and decide which one you enjoy the most?
I'm 20, similar age to you i think?(I just read your 21 hehe)
I went to sixth form to do A-levels after school which was a waste of my time tbh. Straight after that I worked in a kitchen and was thinking about becoming a qualified chef.
I enjoy cooking so I thought I'll like the job. But I couldn't stand the high pressure and stress of working in a kitchen.

Now I'm a Carpenters apprentice. I go to college once a week and work 4 days.
I'm really enjoying it but I don't know if I could do it for the rest of my working life. I also really enjoy working on cars mechanically, its hard to decide what to do when you enjoy working on different things.

Anyway I think its great what you want to do and you are turning your life around. Good luck to you mate, hope it all goes well.

getting a trade is excellent (chippy, sparky, plumber, engineer, mechanic etc) - its something you can always fall back on when the shit hits the fan - and in this day & age, if you're not your own boss, there's no such thing as a secure job anymore.

Laddey, feel free to swap with me? -_- I'm raging because companies are being slow (granted, I'm probably 1 of 5000 applicants) and it's making me go insane.. Sometimes I wish I went into public services/civil services
