I just got sent this:

>From: "Sophie Murray" <sophiemanc@hotmail.com>
>To: purrtylisha@hotmail.com
>Subject: fw: name & shame Matthew CLARKSON
>

hey girls,
hope everyone is ok, long time no see...I've just split up with Matt - this is what
the runt did to me....

Last Thursday was our one year aniversary. I'd booked a table at Le Petit Blanc (his
fave, not mine), and I'd got a hotel room for us...he knew all my plans, but HALF AN
HOUR before we were sposed to meet up he texted me he was going out with his mates
instead. I was not a happy bunny. I tried calling him but he kept cancelling me, and
didnt return my texts till the next day...when he suggested we 'take a break'. One
year with him, and he finished it with a text message!!

Not only have did I waste £79 on the hotel room, but I heard he ended up going to
that new night Sound @ Industry. As you probably know it's cheap drinks and plenty
of good looking guys and girls. I don't know what he got upto that night, but I
assume the worst (he's hardly a loyal boyfriend, as u well know).

Anyways, I've decided to take revenge. Forward this email to everyone you know so
they know what a loser MATT CLARKSON is. I've included a pic in case this gets sent
to anyone who doesnt know him so that if they see him out they will avoid! He is
hopeless in bed, gets drunk off three pints and gets beaten by his female flatmates
on Mario Kart. As if that wasn't bad enough he has wet the bed TWICE since we
started going out, both times he was stone cold sober!!

The Plan: Let's all get together and go to Sound this week (Thursday 21st). I went
to the first one and there were loads of fit guys, I'll get revenge in the best way
I know!!! If anyone is up for it email me back and we'll go down in a proper girlie
group, we can get discount I think if there's enough of us.

So that's this Thursday (21st) - we can meet up at the pre-bar at Font if you want
around 8pm-ish? around the corner from Revolution. If you need any more info on it,
look at the manchester afterdark review site on
http://www.manchester.com/ad/html/clubs/club.php?clubID=654.

See you all soon, and if you cant make it give me a buzz so we can catch up. I've
got a lot more free time on my hands now

Soph
(new email address is sophiemanc@hotmail.com)

anyone know him?

Sounds like a scam to me. Maybe it's a lame attempt by the club to get some more custom? Or maybe it'll turn into one of those ones where they're just trying to get people to ring some horrendously expensive premium rate number?

I just got the same mail, except I scrolled to the bottom;

This is a mock-advert for Sound. The names used in this email are entirely fictional. If you're upset by this mailing, we will hug you. More information on Sound at www.turbo-sound.co.uk
Mailing Lists = Bad? Email soundmcr@hotmail.com to get your name taken off our mailing list.

Thats verging on genius. Its quite clearly done its job of penetrating the pleb (us, you, them) minds well, simply because its here. I say verging, because I imagine it to be irritating to get spam and such. But I don't. Falling, Deaf ears.

I wonder - nay, hope - they have a similar poster campaign. Someone find out, please.

I'd be slightly more interested in it if only I lived in Manchester

Problem with clicking on 'Unsubscribe' links is that it informs the sender that the account is active and they spam you even more :(

Isn't it a it risky for something with an easily (and nessecarily so) located physical presence to partake in spam? I mean, given the hatred which most people carry for spam isn't the club asking to get firebombed?

I can't actually imagine it being that much of an issue with club promotion. If they have any business sense (which granny points out is dubious) they'll a) not run a similar campaign again b) not forcefully add people to their select mail list.

Also, you'd have to be really, really petty to firebomb a club for a rather witty - if potentially annoying - ad. It simply smacks of insanity.

Weeellll... yes..... but let's be honest, a 10 minute trawl through these forums is enough to demonstrate a higher-than-expected ratio of insane people are regular internet users :)
