Only thing i'm looking forward to is the in eyes chasecam options.

Looks like they have made all the ingame menus a bit more polished as well, similar to what they did with the scoreboard in 1.3

Yeah, it tells you what door your comin out of like on Assault, so you can get ready on the Bridge/Containers, and others places like Italy, when they are comin round the corner near CT Spawn, so you can camp in the House...

Altho i myself consider it cheating, coz its not exactly *realistic*

*PS First time i usin Proper Quotes.. may fuck up :p

Ahhh, so anybody who sees a hostage being rescued is cheating, and therefore deserves a good kick from the admin.

erm....

Well of course :p!

I mean they are ruining the game aint they, stopping the objectives n' all.. lol

Oh dear Im sorry! I didn't realise, oh, silly me!

Well, now onto this steam. Ive finally got a test at it, and I agree with MysticG, its pretty pants. Well, I admit that there are tons of great, new features, including the swift new spectator mode menu (Finally with furst person view mode!) and also spanky new models, well, the only new model I noticed was the M4, exactly the same, with a bit more detail. The knife, well, OMG, just wtf did they do to our beloved knife! It has become a 12FPS horror! Also, I noticed that the game runs horribly slow in OpenGL, thus, I reverted back to my horror days in DirectX. (This was probably only on my computer)

It is horribly complicated in even trying to start Counter-Strike now. For a start, you have to have Steam installed, and THEN it downloads a 500MB (yes, you got it, im not joking) cache file, which is filled with all the stuffs of the game, including the maps. When I first tried to join a game, I nearly shit myself, I thought my comp had fecked up it was taking that long. Eventually, im in! Huzzah!! i thought to myself. Well, the least I can say about my initial reaction, is dissapointed. There are NO new player models, they are exactly the same. I was kinda expecting new or at least revamped old ones. I mean todays PC's can handle much more sophisticated graphics...you would think that Cliffe and the boys at cs.net would have a bit of sense. I have to give em some credit though, I really don't think its possible to cheat now. I mean you have to run steam to play cs, and then log into steam. If you just run the normal game without steam, it will feck up, cause u cant download the files, and you cant AUTH, much the same as WONID logging in.

Bunnyhopping is another issue. I have to admit, the anti-bunnyhop is an excellent bit of coding, it doesn't just pause you from jumping - contrary to initial thought, rather it seems to slow your jumping speed and distance down as you jump more. It really is excellent. Although personally, I wonder what the feck its there fore, seing as how there is nothing wrong with bunnyhopping! As for those of you who like to change your crap cs, into a beautiful work of art, well, sorry! You can't even put in new models or it doesn't work! The models have to be the same size as the originals - byte wise, and therefore, its pretty impossible to make a better or worse model, which defeats the purpose.

I can assure you I'm not the only one to complain. Almost everyone who was playing on the servers I was on had the same problems, so they are obviously bugs. I personally would hope that Valve ditch the Steam program. Its horrible, I mean imagine the poor 56ker! He'll be about 96 years older by the time he has updated his cs, and then realise that about 300000 more updates are available and he has to get them all. Takes a heart attack - dies, the end.

Oh yeh, trust me when valve say this is for broadbanders only - THEY AINT LYING!

Not 100% accurate. It actually always downloads the minimal amount of files it can get away with, e.g. to start CS it'll just download the engine & DLL files. However it does take for itself 512mb of space per game default (why I can't tell you, but it does).

Downloads are the most irritating thing ever, CS takes long enough to start as it is atm, now when you install it, every new map you play gets downloaded when you first go to play it. Imagine the hastles if you had a clan game in 5 mins & hadn't played cs_italy yet..... great gotta download it before the match.

All steam looks like to me is a way for valve to start subscription charging for there titles, while at the same time cutting back on the benifits of having a hardcopy CD to install from..... :(

I agree mate. It really is a pants rip off. It even says when you start it, that because its beta, your getting it free.

Naturally this means that it will be a paying service when released to the general public, but with the new trend for subscription based GSP's (GamesDomain, Telewest, and Thrustworld) is this going to turn gamers off playing? Its only a matter of time before the free GSP's close, or else turn to subscription based...that includes barrysworld. Remember, Barrysworld lives on its adverts, although even they can't be bringing in the cash thats needed. I think subscription GSP's are a good idea, although not with the new steam!

But seeing as the content delivery aspect of steam isn't coming out with CS1.4 all of Doenutz rant was pretty pointless.

Technical issues aside (and remember, its not out yet), I think everyone should bear in mind the following:

Products subsidised by advertising are not 'free' or 'cheaper'

Advertising budgets come from the stuff we buy. Therefore, everything that is advertised, is more expensive than it otherwise would be. You can't blame valve for wanting to charge a fee for a massively successful game.

We should learn to accept the true cost of the services we buy/use, and pay accordingly. OK Im speaking from a TV background, and get annoyed at those who whinge about the TV license fee, but how many ppl here would pay a monthly direct debit for access to BW?

I would.

Yes i would pay for BW. However what I am trying to say, is that i DONT think people will want to pay a monthly subscription for CS too! I mean come on, its not like a MMORPG here, there aren't really any staff needed, so basically its a bit shit. You might probably come back at me, saying that this new steam brings the end of cheating. However, it might be good to pay a fee for cheat free gaming, but come on. The arseholes will find some way around it, they do for everything.
