Can anyone give on advice for the best class/race for a beginner player. I want to do Horde and kinda liked the idea of a hunter, mostly for the soleing factor. Thanks for any help.

Hunter is probably the best solo class to lvl to 60 with. Also you don't need to upgrade your equipment all the time, just need to make sure you have a decent bow/gun for your lvl.

In pvp they can solo too, altough not as efficient as a rogue ofcourse, but its certainly viable. I was sceptical at first, but 1.7 did some good things for hunters pve & pvp wise.

1 advice, if you decide to lvl a hunter do it with beast mastery spec, thats imo the fastest way to get 60.

As far as i know all the classes can solo quite fast, some better than others. As above Hunters are cool, altho i havent made 1 yet. im currently playing a warrior, is quite fun and i dnt seem to have any - much downtime after a fight.

All depends on your play style tbh matey :)

Well as above posters have stated hunters are a good beginner class, and now with our new talents goin beastmaster full out will really help lvl'n, and if you know how to conserve mana, you wont really have any downtime.

Was up in winterspring last week grinding feathers of the moonkin using a full quiver of arrows without any rest, the only downtime i had was respawn rate.

Gonna go down to silthus to try my nature trained cat.. :)

the only problem you might face as hunter is getting into raids as hunter spots are usualy very limited. I have never ever seen someone looking for a hunter specifically...

Hunters are definately needed in MC, so don't be put off by not being 'wanted' in other dungeons

Warlock is nice for a first character as well - even though it can be a bit complicated at first you can go with daemonology spec and let your daemons tank and do damage etc, so you wont need good equipment. Also, your level 40 mount is free (but costs mana to summon).
