My hunter was this spec for quite some time

35 stealth
32 Beastcraft ( highest pet )
45 bow ( RF 2 )
39 spear ( back position stun )

but after reading our teamleaders report on how pet actually gives infils an evade bonus unless pet is in front arch i respecced to my current spec which imo is much better.

35 Stealth
6 Beastcraft ( first run buff )
45 Bow ( RF 2 )
50 Sword ( Ragnarok )

This spec is soo much better since I have a BB if not go with spear.
Problem with spear is the massive defence penalty. I find myself evading much more and can now solo even light tanks now.
Another thing is a hunter with Ragnarok poses a new threat on the battlefield, people usually ignore me when im on their back untill I whack em for 200-250 dmg.
I even stand a chance against slashfils as I can whip out my fast sword ( gazis blade spd 2.3 ) and do assult--> baldurs fury which hinders infil it gives me time to sprint away and press run buff or turn and start shooting.

If you go for kobbihunter then i would say use spear. If you go sword Norse or Dwarf is much better.

I am 50 bow.

In the usal stealth vs stealth fights it doesnt matter. Stealthers have no bladeturn. In group vs group fights where you might encounter pbt the support gets killed rather fast by /assisting tanks so Piercing Arrow 3 isn't of much use there either.

When I got everything together for my next suit I will go 50 sword, 45 bow and I hope that will be my final spec. :)

Imo Hunters are one of best archers at high RRs.
Spear, blue pet (so no scout can slam and crit u, he has to slamm the dogie too, and no time left to finish pulling crit unless full buffed), speed buff, IP / Purge / AP3. Point.
But even with 50 bow you wont hit as hard as a scout (my scout unbuffed outdamages any buffed ranger / hunter <quote at least from what i meet till now in rvr, and where high rrs and buffed peeps tho).
My scout has 45+13 LB, crit caps at 1025 dmg (unbuffed all stats) and normal shot at 598. I did my cap dmg on buffed shaman (lvl 50) in df, on casters. But my dmg comes from normal arrows i shoot (since i got FE3 lately, i crit pretty much). In melee any hunter / ranger will out damage me fast, and my dodger 2, mob 2 dont help me enough.
If i get the jump on a hunter, and his ip is down, i can kill it. (had a nice jump on a rr6 hunter in df, he just logged in and started to buff and cast pet when i shooted from few meters distance. couldnt get a crit since he was in "fight" = buffing, but i managed to get 1 more normal shoot and a RF one in before pet reached me, then we went to melee, i slamed from 1st atempt (he was less than 1/2 hp at this point) and i keep slamm him. When stun weared off, he was ~5% hp. He iped. /clap, /cheer, wait to die.)
Just an example. Maybe if i had IP myself, could call it a close fight. But i dont feel to get IP for 23 rps just to win once or twice a day VS a hunter (a ranger would still beat me bad, due to his DW weaps, higher dmg and hit me more often for much more than i can hit back). I go for passives to increase what i am good at. Snipping. Peeps dont have always purge up. Peeps dont always stick / face when in fight. If i can manage to keep both your and your pet in my frontal arc, i can win in a normal melee fight. If not, /clap, /cheer, soon /release.
Hunters pwn. Rangers are close too. Scouts need some wubing. I like them how they are ^^

not a hunter .. but don't valkyn actully have some good hunter stats? I eman quickness is actully a very good thing on a hunter and you get those 5% extra resist

stealth:35
bow:40
spear:50
beast:22-23 (can't remember what one)

I choose higher spear as everyone seems to run around with engage on and the 50spear style has a nice bleed amount on:p

ofc low beast but everyone has a bot it seems can always ask for a spare conc :)

I have

40bow
44spear
32bc
35 stealth

I use a buff bot, so in theory i could have low BC and higher spear, but i love the pet for disupting casters/healers, and i love the run speed for chasing down enemys. Also its amazing fun if you see a solo, to send the pet, and restealth, the enemy has 2 choices, try and find you while the pet nibble at it (when you are stealthed) or waste end attacking the pet making him an easier target, not uber but makes me smile

There is a hidden qui cap at 250, where points above this give VERY diminshed returns. (i asked RightNow about this, and thats what Mythic told them, there is a benefit, but its unnoticable).

If you consider RA and best shammy buffs, a kobie perhaps shouldnt even put points in Qui.

however i'd still recommend a kobie with 10 str/con/qui... but valkyrn is way too gimped con wise.

IMO the 44 spear style isnt worth it.. i only seldom get to use the stun in RvR (enemies dont like to turn the back to me, and let me swing)... and when i do land it (the 39 rear style), i hardly ever managed to press the right follow up ke(44 style)y.

Blood,

wots ur spec then m8?

I have a hunter atm and I am trying to keep spear/bow at 1below level whilst bringing bc up every third or fourth level.

If you dont take spear 44 do you stop at 39? and if so where do the extra points go?
Beastcraft? Bow?

My hunter is norse cos I wanted the extra con/str - would I be better off going sword?

Cheers

Can't be arsed to write a new reply so here is a copypaste from an older hunter thread.

There are lots of Hunters speccs these days.
I think the best ones are the well balanced ones and they can be varied a lot.

I do have some main principals I think its worth following though to be more overall
effective as a hunter wheather you have a buffbot or not.

32-34 in beastcraft. Minimum 32 for best pet but prefareably 34 if you can spare the points for the second best speed. Anything higher is not cost effective and lower BC isnt very good with the current state of the BC line.

30-35 in stealth. Not higher than 35, you will regret it. Realmranks comes fast in the beginning, plan ahead unless you wanna waste respeccs. Having 47+ stealth is enough and you gain more for each realmrank so save points here for other skills. Being spoted is more about playing with your head than having 1 or 2 more in stealth.

Minimum 39 in spear. Gives access to Razors Edge which is one of our best spearstyles. Useable while soloing and very nice while grouping.

Minimum 40 bow. Gives access to PAII.

After these principals you can vary the specc a lot. Of course its not a must, some people want to have 50 spear or 50 bow but it will be to the cost of something else. Sure they might hit a tiny bit more but they will be less overall effective.

My to favorite speccs atm is:
45 spear
40 bow
34 bc
32 stealth
if you like melee more than bow

or
45 bow
39 spear
34 bc
33 stealth
if you rely more on your bow than your spear

I dont beleive in Sword for Hunters and are not gonna start that discussion again. There are no valid arguments that makes sword better than spear for Hunters.

I dont believe in buffbots specc totally neglecting the BC line. Although BC needs a boost having no BC will make you less effective, miss easy kills and die more.

40 bow
44 spear
35 stealth
32 bc

thats my spec... blue pet for the win :>

dont forget that although perhaps you don't "NEED" to have the 44spear style, you want the WS u get from 44 spear so you can actually hit stuff :)
