Hi Mey,

1st thing is do the tutorial in full, it'll give you a nice bit of starting cash to get your first good frigate. They've changed the character creation system in the last week with the Revelations update so you'll start with more skills than people previously did.

If you plan on playing for a while it's a good idea to get the learning skills done, but make sure you intersperse it with enough fun skills to keep you interested, I had a mate who started, felt he had to grind the learning skills and quit because he found it boring!

Always make sure you have a skill in training, it'll learn while you're off-line. I've just moved house and yet to get the internet (at work atm) so set a 20+ day skill on my character.

Hope this helps, fire away any questions, I'll probably be on forums and other brain enhancing websites for most of today.

Eszencia.

Oh, and P.S. RTFM it helps a lot :)

He's right

If you are still confused do the tutorial over again.

Run all your tutorial missions and then choose an agent carefully afterwards. Also start thinking now as to what you want to do in the game as there is plenty. Do you want to become a war veteran a trader a industrialist a miner etc.

Theres loads of paths to choose from and you can change your mind later but the foundation you lay now will move you forward to the next stage.

If your e-mail was viewable in your profile (sensible that it isn't) I could have sent you a trial invite. PM me a mail address and I will do so. Eve is off-line for 24 hours tomorrow so you should be able to try it from Friday night onwards.

Cheers,

Ben.

Once you get into this amazing universe, it sucks you in forever.
And the great thing, you can take long breaks and still progress you character as skilltraining continues if your account is inactive.
I've taken and going to take alot of breaks, but never ever gonna stop completely.

Will do, servers are down till 11am tomorrow, so if I've time at work I will try and do it then. Otherwise it'll be tomorrow night.

It may be that you can get the trial yourself from the www.eve-online.com website, but am not sure. I just know that I can mail a trial to people. Worth checking though!

The problem with starting now is that anyone who has been playing 2 years will totally rip you a new one even if they have skill or not.

Plus you'll find you will be struggling to make money unless you join a power hungry corp where the CEO is a power whore.

Seriously before you get playing take a long hard think before you start playing as you can't get anywhere fast in this game because of the real time skill experience which imo is a load of bull.

yeah, sitting here atm waiting for a 31 day skill to complete.

there is absolutly no "power leveling" in this game at all. be prepared to have to wait ATLEAST 3 months to half a year to even START to think about getting to use any of the good modules and turrets.

u wont really have any half decent chance at pvp unless u have 10-15 million skillpoints IF u spend them exactly right. and even then most 2-3+ year players wont even notice ya when they kill u as they are most likly sitting on 50-60+ million skillpoints...

but the game CAN be a lot of fun. but dont really expect to be anyones challenge in pvp for about a year or 2.

I learned them first but how fast are we talking?

like i said it doesn't matter about learning skill if a guy who has 50mill skill points under his belt and has a average IQ is locked onto you with his omfgwtf huge ass ship with all the trimmings.

Disagree with everything you say here.

No-one really goes to low sec until they have a played for a few months. By this time you can hold you own easily. We used to roll alts and spec them so they could fly kessies instantly and go low sec and have a blast fighting pirates and miners.

I have yet to find a corp as described, I know pretty much all the top corps and most of the pirate corps and they generally all really nice. Corps run by "power whores" don't last 5 minutes. Corps run by helpful CEO's thrive.

Real-time skill keeps the l337 kiddies and the powergamers away, which is probably why EvE has the best community in any mmorpg by a country mile.

ok, and u and ur friends have played the game how long? i very much doubt a bunch of newbies could do the same and not be instantly ass raped by the first anything they met :)

theres a huge diffrence in doing what ur doing if u have played for a few yers and doing it "after a few months" of playing as a total newbie.

:)

True, but the point is that the skill system is not the reason new players can't go straight to low sec and compete. Takes time to learn the game (and it's a complicated game to learn), thats why it takes several months to get to a point where you can consider going pirating.

Mainly we use the kessie creation toons to bomb macro miners in high sec systems anyway. Lost count of the number of barges and haulers we have swatted then watch while our hauler slips in and steals their ill-gotten-gains. Even killed a few cruisers this way, macroers beware :)
