star wars : episode II rumour

i came home today and my mum was telling me that star wars episode II was hitting the cinema on may 16th.... i said "yeh... and"

as you are at this point too

what she said NEXT tho was the killer....


she reckons she saw something on the news today that said about a simultaneous cinema & video (dvd?) release for episode two... to cut down on piracy.... not having seen the rumours myself.. i'm wondering if my mum is on smack... confirm or deny the episode II rumour i just started anyone?

No way....most people will watch it at the cinema first then buy the DVD, won't happen on the same scale if they release it on DVD at the same time.

They're not even going to finish the final edit of the film until the 12th, 4 days before it's out across the world. Getting the film around in that time is hard enough, let alone printing and pressing and distributing millions and millions of DVDs.

the amazon thing says:

Opening Date: 16 May, 2002 not release date (which would be for the dvd)

there isnt a chance in hell that lucas will release the dvd at the same time as the cinema, as previously stated it would kill cinema sales. Stagger them appropriately and you make a shit load on cinema sales then a shitload (from the same people) on dvd sales.

1) No, Ep 2 is not being released on DVD at the same time as it's out at the cinema - hence "Opening Date" on that Amazon link. It refers to the film going on general release.

2) No, Ep IV, V and VI are not out on DVD yet.
