Perpetual Entertainment as said that all assists other than the game code itself have been transferred to "Bay Area development studio" which could or could not be Cryptic Studios of City of Heroes fame.

Cryptic hired a lot of the staff, the rumor is that the rights went with them... but the code didn't. So if it is going to get restarted, its from the very beginning (not so bad for the Coders as they probably have a good foundation already.)

To be perfectly honest this was never an impending release and it isn't the kind of title that will suffer by being delayed for any period of time.

Certain it'll get made at some point, but when and by whom is anyones guess right now :)

Well - can't say I'm surprised if this holds true.
Not since Perpetual canceled another MMO (Gods and Heroes) long into "development".

the mystery continues :)

Star Trek Online
coupled with

Star Trek Online on WarCry : Forums : General Discussion : Maybe not dead afterall...

and

According to sources at the conferance, Emmert was wearing a sweatshirt that read "STARFLEET ACADEMY" across the front. Emmert also emphasized "secret sci-fi project" with some fairly large Air Quotes.

makes its almost a guaranteed bet that its Cryptic thats taken over even if they refuse to make an official statement about it.

so heres hoping!

If you liked bridge commander (and was sent into shock/rage at st: legacy) then have a good perv at: NanoFX GE :: Portal
It is quite a way off yet, but it does look gorgeous and the BC mod community is still very much alive. I'm keeping my eye on it.

I always thought BC combat was a bit too simple, did you try fullscreen control or just stay on the bridge?
At the end of the day combat is all I want ... not a a full-on star trek rpg ;-)

i tried both. and more often then not i either couldn't get the ship lined up with enough weapons or i just couldn't order the NPC's do do it for me.

been a looong time since i played it so i cant really remember much of it. just that i kept dying to pretty much anything.

/edit: gonna install it again and see if i can get my head around it this time...
