It was shite. Not helped by the fact that Toby MacGuire is such a pathetic lamut. And Kirsten Dunst looks like her face has melted. The best bit about it was Willem Dafoe, who has one of the ugliest, most expressive and most villainous faces in cinema... so they put it behind a shit mask. Nice!

It was alright, not worth all the hype. The special effects looked very fake, especially after star wars ep 2. Its just lacking something that I cant place my finger on.

we saw it literally after EP2 on friday night...

Bym and I went to see EP2 at about 9PM at our local UCI and as we were leaving people were queueing (about 11:45pm) for spiderman preview screening tickets...

Caz was pretty tired but I somehow managed to convince her into letting us see spidey and IMO it ROCKED!

ok, so some of the effects weren't the most convinving, but I think it's forgiveable... I don't see any threads criticising the matrix for the dodgy background curtain used in the scene where trinity was evading the agents at the start of the film and that's one of my most hated scenes (even tho I wub dat film massively too)

putting things in context spiderman has only really been done before in a cartoon form, even the games have erred towards cartoon spidey over real-life spidey and I think the fact that some of the 3d looked plasticy is ok...

they used a lot of poetic license in the storyline (organic web shooters? wtf??) but all in all it was a damn fine film and will be finding it's way into my dvd collection as soon as it gets released.

On a different note I've seen trailers for Scooby Doo, Hulk, MIB2, Die Another Day and Minority Report - does anyone know much about any of them yet? MIB2 has the potential to be awesome... but I aint convinced yet... as to the Hulk trailer I thought it was a spoof superhero film (in the style of scary movie) til I saw the credits bearing Stan Lee's name - fingers crossed it looks better than the trailer (or goes straight to video ;))

Almost forgot

Spider-Man 2 is already in the pipeline http://us.imdb.com/Title?0316654

filming begins Jan 2003 and the plot is maybe slightly thin at the mo:

"As Spider-Man continues to pine for Mary-Jane, two new villains come up against him: Dr. Octopus and the Lizard. "

heh - which means it'll be out before EP3!

in the trailer he's leaning over a sink looking in the mirror and starts wobbling like the curry the night before got the better of his guts - makes me thing toilet trouble, not wrath of the hulk!

Sticking up for Kirsten Dunst (cos I think she's lovely) she looked her usual pretty self, but wasn't sure about the ginga locks (and eyebrows - yuk), certainly didn't suit her.

She's got a nice pair of tits tho - and yes, I am speaking from the point of a jealous girlie, no need to get excited lads!

Scooby Doo is supposed to be very bad, the Trailer is awful.
MIB2 looks good, as does Die Another Day.
Hulk is still ages away.
Minority Report is supposed to be good, although the Trailer seemed didn't really seem that inspiring.

As for Spiderman i think its better than Attack of the Clones although as someone else said the effects aren't what you would expect from a movie that has had so much money spent on it.

Minority report has a few trailers, I saw one nearly a month ago that was huge, it looks like a spectacular film with a massive budget. The smaller trailers I have seen since are less appealing.

Personally, I felt pretty let down by Spiderman.

It was "okay". It's true that it was lacking something intangible. It felt really odd. The organic web shooter thing was actually something left in from when Jim Cameron did a treatment for the film a while back.

I'm not sure if Toby Maguire was the best choice for Spiderman. Kirstan Dunst was an okay choice.

As I write this I've got the Superman The Movie DVD playing in the background and THAT is what a superhero movie should be like. I was a big comic book fan when I was younger and I've got quite a collection so look forward to seeing big screen renditions of old favourites.

Spiderman just seemed like such a mediocre film. It tried to be too clever for it own good (count the Superman references) and fell on it's arse at nearly every one. They may as well have drawn signposts saying "LOOK!! AREN'T WE CLEVER!!! SPOT THE HIDDEN SUPERHERO REFERENCES!!! LOOK!! LOOK!!!".

Willem Dafoe was an "okay" choice but the role was terribly done and badly scripted. The director tried to put in too many of his own "signature" film making ideas just for the sake of it.

Check out www.imdb.com and go to the trivia section and you'll see what I mean.

Spiderman for me was, at best, an okay film.

I thought they were both excellent choices, because Maguire can do both uber-dork and heroic very well. And Kirsten Dunst is a fantastic actress.

I'm exactly the same, and I thought the first 2 Supe films were great.

Half of those references have been part of Spider-Mans story since the beginning. Want a bad reference? Try the recent version of HG Wells' The Time Machine - it actually references HG Wells as an author, and most unforgivable of all actually mentions the book itself.

Willem Dafoe was an "okay" choice but the role was terribly done and badly scripted.

I thought Dafoe did a great job, mixing sincerity, pathos and complete crazyness when needed.

The director tried to put in too many of his own "signature" film making ideas just for the sake of it.

That's Sam Raimi's style though, and when you've been around and done as many excellent films as he is then there has to be something about his "signature film making ideas" that people like.

Check out www.imdb.com and go to the trivia section and you'll see what I mean.

Again, half of those were in Spider-Man since Amazing Fantasy #15, so you can't pin those on the cast and crew of the film. They're part of Spider-Man lore, so blame Stan Lee if you must. :)

Lol

Aye she is, as is Angelina Jolie, but I think regardless of their good looks that they are both excellent at their jobs. My favourite actress though is Jodie Foster - she has never done a bad film.
