Speed problems...

Ok i've just got Tribes 2 today...surprised by the fps count (15 or so) i thought others might have this problem. This was not the case. I found most people getting really high fps... so i'm looking for your help to solve it.

My system specs arent low: AMD k-7 900 Mhz; 256mb ram; Win 98; Voodoo 5 5500 AGP; Creative Live! Soundcard. With these specs it still runs slowly (15 fps on low settings!)

So i urge you to reply to this post and give me an idea on what the problem may be.

Thanks,
Storme.

Oh dear =(
I wonder if its possible that a patch could fix this?
Anyway thanks for your reply.

Yeah, it should be patched. Dave Georgeson said that Voodoo users will have to hold on a little longer while they sort the issues.

Try downloading WickedGL and see if it helps (soz don't have a URL since i don't use it, don't have a voodoo card)

Just lower some of the details while it is sorted, terrain detail increases speed substantially i think.

Grab WickedGL from here. You might lose your HUD instruments though because T2 isn't officially supported yet (although apparently they're looking into it).

Not that much better.

The TNT is also a problem card.

Hmmm waddya reckon..should i hang on for a bit for a Voodoo patch, or just fork out for a gf2?

dunno but tbh i would get a GF2 since voodoo are no more so there won't be any drivers for the voodoo's.

Well i'll be getting a GF3 in a month or so or whenever it arrives over here (UK). However in the meantime i want to be able to play T2 until that time =)

Thanks for the WickedGL drivers. I'll check them out now

Make sure you don't have full 3d sound on as well. There's a big bug there.

I dunno why I picked up on this (I don't even have the game and haven't played tribes for a few years), but it's true that the SB Live! can cause rather severe problems for the game. If you go into multimedia settings in the control panel in windoze, turn the acceleration down on the SB Live. It's some sort of bug apparently that should be sorted in a forthcoming patch. Some guys reported getting FPS increases of around 20 - 25. Quite an improvement!

Also try these things
Disable the MP3 ingame player.
Some people have said that using DX8 or DX7.whatever gives them a higher FPS. This is just what I have picked up on over on the other T2 message boards.
Oh to have all day to wonder the msg boards lol.
But hey the telephone exchanges I work on dont run windows so they dont go wrong that much :)

Get a nice 64Mb Geforce 2mx. I have a 32mb one, SDR even, and Tribes2 runs absolutely fine on practically all the missions, running in 32bit with most settings on high.

hmmm... I'm using my SBLive with the E-mu APS drivers. I'm not having any problems at all...

It might be a problem with LiveWare.

hmm

I turned down the acceleration options down all the way and now it wont run at all!
It seems to be more Tribes problem than my pc's spec now.

Hmm but that 16 mb banshee probably runs faster than this pile of junk voodoo 5 malarky =P

every1 except me seems to be gettin problems with voodoo cards and T2. if you look at the gamespy forums, the yanks were gettin all the same problems you guys seem to be gettin. maybe its worth a look there for some help from some1 whos had a bit of time to tweak this and tweak that.......

for some reason, T2 runs like a dream on my 1.2Ghz athlon and voodoo5 5500 (in D3D)set up. showaudio(); in the console gives me 100+ fps and i've tweaked nothing; just gone with the defaults. i did download the latest certified drivers for my voodoo recently from 3dfx.com but i dont see how this should make that much difference....

Well, when the geforce 3 hits our shores I should have been paid for the holidays I didn't take last year at work - close to £400 :)

Guess what's going after that ;)
