Specs and + items

I've heard various different opinions, can someone please give me a definate answer to this.

My question is, do items push your spec lvls past your char lvl, or does the spec lvl cap at your char lvl?

eg. If my hunter at lvl 35 (for BG3) has 27 in bow spec (last crit shot) with +8 items (bow=35) would i bit hitting for less dmg than a hunter of the same lvl with 35 bow spec with +8 items (bow=43??),
or does the amount in spec points regardless of + items always cap at your char lvl, meaning the +8 with items on the latter is wasted?

the hunter with the 35 in bow and the +8 from items will do more damage overall...
stats from items/buffs can always take you over your level (that's one of their fuctions :p) let somebody else give you the precise stat caps tho, as I really can't remember...

for skills its (level/5)+1

so level 30 has +6 max
level 35 has +7

level 50 it's +11 :)

Dunno about this, but think + items give you higher damage cap, while higher spec, gives you higher minimum damage. So higher spec smaller damage varience. As i said i have no idea.

Depends on the skill, really.

Weaponskills, generally the higher the better, with diminished returns above 50. The same on most spell lines. Some, such as Paladin's Chants, give no advantage to taking them above your skill. Rare ones, such as envenom, you gain all the advantage from items that you'd gain with the normal skill. +Items don't give you access to extra styles or abilities. Shield and Parry give you bonuses that don't diminish above 50.

I believe that's true, anyway.
