No but you can use shield and spear in a kind of combo. At 42 in Shields you get Slam which is a long stun (9 sec) then you you can equip your spear and do alot of damage on your enemy. Some people think it's hard to use this method and some don't. My Hero specced in blades and shield until lvl 39 when I realised I could also get very high in Celtic Spear. Atm I have Blades 40, Shield 42, CS 34... at 50 my spear will be something like 44-46 I think. So I can both hold any purp mob with my shield and block a lot in RvR and aswell do lot of dmg with my spear, sure I don't get parry that high and that is perhaps the big downside with my Hydrid Hero.
Reason being i just saw a screenshot of a Firborg with a spear in one hand and a big square shield in the other! I found the screenshot this morning while trying to find shrouded isles screens and i now cant find the damn link!
