I'm getting fed up to buggary of these shit speakers attached to my poota; they're cheap as shit ones that give crap audio quality (mp3's above 128kbps don't sound any better on these :()... I'm looking for some new multimedia speakers for meh poota on a strict budget of around £100 I really liked the look of the Altech Lansing ADA885MG they look good and at £65 fit nicely into my price range... I'm using an SB Live! 5.1 and I won't be upgrading that any time soon... it's not that sound quality isn't an issue for me I just really don't have the money to go all out for a seperate amp and speakers etc (nor the space considering I'll be in uni halls in 3 months)... So I was wondering what you audiophiles think of the altech speakers (http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=6574) or if you have any better suggestions on that budget :)

PC speakers sound shit. On a budget of £100 you can get an amp/speaker combo that will dump on anything pc based whilst having the benefit of being upgradeable later and holding it's value compared to a set of PC speakers.

From Richer Sounds (I acknowledge they sell only 'their' brands but they are cheap as hell);

Speakers;

JPW ML310 BLACK £39.95

Amp;

Acoustic Solutions SP100 SILVER £69.95

That comes £10 over budget and will bash anything PC based into the ground.

If you could stretch another 10/20 quid I'd upgrade the Speakers and amp to this;

Speakers;

Kef Cresta 1 CHERRY £49.95
or
Mission 700 BLACK £49.95

Both are fantastic speakers, I'd prolly plump for the Kef's tho as they are sexier.

Amp;

Cambridge Audio A1mk3 BLACK £79.95

I have myself the Cambridge A1 and a set of JPW speakers (same price range as the ones Scoob mentions) . I don't know the model though since I inherited them from my Dad when I went to uni :)

It has however, a very nice set up :)

I know the set up scooba mentions does look tempting... I just wonder if a set of decent poota based speakers would be cheaper and save me some space I'm planning on taking a marshall half stack, 2 guitars and my computer... amongst other things, I could see myself getting a little cramped... a decent seperates system is something I'd want to get when/if I'm working full time and have a place of my own.. then I plan on putting a grand a side and getting the best audio system I can.... until then I think I might just stick get the Altech's.... cheers for your help though guys!

Ed: Hmmm no I can't make up my mind, the added quality of scooba's solution is extremely tempting :(

If you pick up wallbracket mounts for the speakers you've not lost any space and you're looking at a pretty small box for the amp, You could always stick it under the desk and use it to keep your feet warm.
