well the original actor died of cancer. I liked episode 2x1, and I'm hoping Gannicus will come into it sometime, from gods of the arena :)

Even the original actor and the show itself wasn't that great at the start so I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

It doesn't seem to have the polish of the original, or the prequel, and that seems strange after their success. You'd have thought that would have meant more resources being thrown at this series.

I'll keep watching, as I'm a big fan of the series, but I hope it improves, I was dissapointed.

Haven't watched the new episode yet, but I think one of the reasons B&S and Gods were so good was because of the scheming, plotting, back-stabbing machinations of Batiatus / Selonius / etc. There was enough to keep you glued to the screen each week: all the political intrigue, Spartacus finally getting revenge on Batiatus for the death of his wife, the rivalry between Spartacus & Crixus, etc. And now: what have we got ? A renegade slave army under Spartacus / Crixus intent on bringing down Glabus? Without the games, the political intrigue it seems difficult to keep the storyline nice & tight. Plus we've had 2 seasons to get used to Andy (RIP) not to mention Batiatus. Its bound to seem strange.

This. It just doesn't feel the same. The new actor is just not Spartacus. Hopefully the rest of the series will improve and I will forget that we have a new actor.

Just watched it, and enjoyed it very much.

Remember, the first few episodes of the original series were the cheesiest pile of shite ever, but addictive all the same. I see no reason why this will be any different.

The politics will no doubt come from Rome.

You mean Ilithyia?

I thought that she looked a little different as well. I think it's just that she's thinned out a bit in her face.

They've recast Naevia.

I'm going to miss Melitta though.

And Gannicus is set to return.
