spare adsl modem

a few months ago I thought my adsl modem wasn't working so I borrowed my friend's, turned out I only needed a patch and there was nothing wrong with it. I went to the pub with the same friend last night and he told me I could keep his modem because he's getting cable. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas of how I could turn owning two adsl modems to my advantage?

errr by selling one thus increasing your bank balance? What kind of advantage do you mean? It's not like you can link them together and magically get a megabit connection :p

I had thought of selling one, but who to? Everyone I know already has one, don't BT etc insist on supplying you with one?

I had heard a story a little while ago of a man who picked up the exact make and model ADSL modem which BT supply, only for far less as he bought in Germany. BT subsequently refused to provide support as they didn't directly supply him with the modem. Whether this was just a bit of 'BT Bashing' I don't know, but it did appear in print in a fairly open-minded magazine.

As for your predicament, as danger says, it currently isn't possible to link the two modems and increase your connection speed. Thus, perhaps your only other option is to sell it. Auction sites like Dabsxchange, eBay and maybe even Amazon could be your best bet. Alternatively, you could donate it charity and rest easy at night, safe in the knowledge that your kit is helping people less fortunate than yourself. Not very profitable, but a nice gesture.

Sorry I can't be of more help

I wouldn't even mind giving it away, I mean it's not like I paid anything for it. But can you subscribe to a broadband isp without having to get the modem off them? I suppose you must be able to, like if you were with BT but cancelled it then a few months later decided to sign up with someone else.

Maybe I should organise a CS competition or something and give the winner the modem, though I can't see the winner being a 56Ker:)

Mal, i have the ultimate solution here...

Sell the modem for £25 pounds and then get your BW subs :)

or I could give it to Taff, if I thought she'd know what to do with it;)

or you could keep it as a spare in case your other one broke down... or spontaneously combusted or something :p
