if my PC goes down I won't be able to play the game :(

My pc makes a strange noise sometimes on boot up..sounds as though something is vibrating inside.

At first I thought it was th CPU fan so I took it out and cleaned it and the heatsink and it was ok for about 4 days. Then the noise came back so I put a new fan in. It was ok again for a few days but now the noise is back. Noise goes after a while but I can't figure out what is causing it as it's intermittent and doesn't always happen on boot up.

PC is only 11 months old, so any ideas on what could be causing it anyone ?

thanx in advance cos I'd like to cure it.

Could still be a fan. Most modern PCs have 3 or 4 (CPU, motherboard, 3D card, PSU), make sure you check them all. CD/DVD drives can also make a god awful noise at times, so make sure your drives are empty to eliminate that possibility.

EDIT: Oh, and if the noise went away after messing with the fan, try it again. If the noise vanishes for a few days again you'll know for sure the fan is knackered

Back in the days I used to do support.... this came up a couple of times...

Odd noises are made by computers for 1 reason: moving parts.

The moving parts inside your computer are:

Fans (CPU/GPU/System/NBridge/PSU)
Harddrives
CDROM Drives.

Here's the fun bit:

Sometimes it's something (99% chance of a cable) touching a rotating fan.

Go get some cable ties and tidy up that machine ;)

PSU's do tend to be the most manky/gunked up of all the fans. They're pretty simple to extract, pull apart, clean and return to the unit. Or pay 20-40 quid for a replacement.
