Any one have any experience of these? They seem to be going for £175-200. I broke my NW-HD3 which was very similar but more buttons and more fiddly. I really liked it before i broke it (i have a tendancy to do that). its got a 20gig hard drive and 35 hour battery life (5 hours more htan my old one apparantly). and its cool :D.

anyone able to recomment this?

oh and no ipod suggestions, dont like them and i trust sony more (im the only person from the 10 or so people i know that have had the nw-hd3 thats broken it, i rock).

any alternatives you could suggest? - im looking for something with 20gig memory so. I need to save up etc so hoping that after xmas these will be cheaper in sale? :)

I've got the Cowog iAudio M3L
24hrs++ playtime with the remote control (included) backlight on (tested it myself, got bored after 24 hrs, though I doubt it had much juice left, but still :))
20 Gig's harddrive
cool and slim look
No software needed, shows as external harddrive, just drag and drop your songs..
very functional equalizer
USB2 480 Mbps
Firmware extremely easily upgradable
standard earphones are reasonably good, though soundquality with good phones easily tops that of any other player I've heard..

radio
radio to mp3 recorder
Voice to mp3 recorder (very good quality microphone)
plays: MP3 WMA ASF WAV and Ogg Vorbis

and ohw... it looks DAMN cool :D
and yeah... iPod isn't that good.. don't get it. Extremely expensive, low audioquality, short batterylife, minimal functions.. (aftermarket add-ons supply more functions at €39.99 each) and that menu... I mean... come on.. be serious, it just sucks... :/

cool, that iaudiox3 looks pretty cool. If you drop a folder into it named like "ben harper fight for your mind" (example) then could you delve into that folder from the menu on the actual mp3 player or? just thats waht i did with my old sony and worked really well, ment i could make compilations etc really easily. hmm will defo look into those :D thanks guys.

and yeh im dead against ipods, they seem more fashion than functional (mind you the new sony looks fashionable aswell :D - specially in purple)

does the battery time last long enough? 14 hours doesnt seem enough, especially since battery life goes down after a month or so :( i like the idea of getting videos on with the X5 but can only think of fights id put on that and that will distract me and probably burn battery down alot quicker hmmmm :(.

the added L stands for long battery life, like my M3L it lasts a LOT longer then the specified duration for the M3
and yeah, movies.. didn't know what use I would have for that either, so I chose the predecessor, cheaper and all the functions I need ;)

well you could rip movies from dvd and watch them on the go, though after a while it would become a bit of a gimmick, probably good for a long train journy.

Yeah longer battery life so that aint a problem for me. Currently have all my fave movies on it which I like since I always get the urge to watch things.
If you aint gonna be in situations where you can actually stop and watch things though then I would skip these and go for cheaper music player instead!

(currently playing DVD Pink Floyd Live @ Pompeii :D)

X5 is 145g and X5L is 180g. Not sure what weights are for other players so might wanna shop about. Might see a nicer player :)
