Have never bought anything on import, so couldn't really give two shits. I mean it's sad Lik-Sang have gone bust, but if you break the rules that's what you get. Standard law of the jungle bizness. Must take the piss tho, site like isohunt have beaten off lawsuits and managed to keep going with just the income from advertising, where's all the money from Lik-Sang's gratuitous markups gone then?

edit// And publishing the names of customers on the web is REALLY cool. Lik-Sang deserve everything they got.

"but also Sony Europe's very own top directors repeatedly got their Sony PSP hard or software imports in nicely packed Lik-Sang parcels with free Lik-Sang Mugs or Lik-Sang Badge Holders, starting just two days after Japan's official release, as early as 14th of December 2004"

lol.
Taken from here

ee, I really hate them.
At first, they're like "OMG our console is region-free, you can import games from everywhere" and then they're closing the import shops.

Smart move.

Yes, let's get really pissed off with Sony for being a commercial company and wanting to protect their revenue streams, what evil evil people they are. Let's be honest, Lik-Sang were always on fairly dodgy ground and it was only a matter of time till someone attempted to take action against them. Also let's not forget it was the High Court in London that ruled Lik-Sang's sale of PSPs was illegal.

Doesn't make sense tbh - imports help the hype. Self-defeating tactic by the bean-counters.

Maybe if Sony didn't fuck Europe over everytime they release something maybe people wouldn't have to import.

Comon March 07 is a complete insult and i don't even believe it will be out then either more like July/August time tbh.

And the other annoying thing is that the only good game coming out for it Metal Gear 4 won't see the light of day in Europe until December 2007-early 2008.

Europe has always been done over by pretty much every gaming company out there, be it console hardware or games, our release dates are always crap. Same goes for Films/DVD's and a lot of Music, it's what living in Europe is all about!

I'm not entirely sure how lik-sang damages Sony's revenue, seeing as they distribute official products which they have to buy and resell clearly. The only conceivable thing I can think which causes Sony to be upset over the import things is that it warps the sales figures for a given region, and of course different regions have different value hardware/software. I'm expecting that Japanese hardware/games are cheaper than European hardware so you could say that is revenue loss.

Shame the whole site might be closing, they've come back from the dead once though.

I'm sure half the people replying to the lik-sang statement who say they will never buy another Sony product again end up buying one within the year, and certainly sometime in the future ;)

Well apart from a ps2 the only Sony product I have bought before would be a minidisc player. I'm not overly keen on the ps3, and less so now.

Lik-sang does lots of quality products, that aren't easy to get otherwise. I hope they carry in some form even if they are no longer selling console hardware on import.

I find it hard to believe that they will stop completely as it must be a very lucrative business even with just software, they are a reliable well priced importer and that counts for a lot I think.

But they did sa y it kind of opens a pandoras box, if they cease selling PSP's and PS3's, how long before Wii's and DS'? then how long before someone complains about their software being sold there.. it's kind of a slippery slope if companies choose to screw with them.

Sony said that it was using the full scope of the law to block the importing of PlayStation 3s in order to protect consumers from being sold hardware that didn't conform to European safety standards.

Wow, what a convincing reason. Did SCEE just say import PS3s can burn down your house?

Yes - they have no concern for safety in Japan you know.

Sad to see them go, although not really bothered about getting a PS3 to be honest.....probably end up as nothing more than an over priced plastic door stop.

In Dubai when PSP came out we had the choice of buying US or Jap models then later on the European one. Will be interesting to see if we get Jap/US PS3's here before Europe.

Only Sony hardware product I own is a PSP not sure I want another one. Xbox 360 looks like the most likely winner for Xmas.
