Well you asked for a new thread, so here it is

I would like to find out about making a quad timer bind, anyone know where I can go to get the info?

Is that timer legal in UKCCL, it would be nice if it is banned, i would personnly like to see all timers banned, if only it was possible.

VSE timers are banned - get caught using them in a ukccl game, and you'll get kicked out

Well, im one of the many people who has used a manually started .wav timer. Certainly it creates massively uneven games when the clan you are playing are not doing similar but very even games when everyone has it (and I know many clans who do time - you can tell when half the players on each team turn up 5 seconds before the quad appears for a general bun fight over it).

Probably the best answer with existing games is mod authors putting in randomised quad spawns, which a lot of mods now include - but unfortunately not all. Does Q3/UT support random quad/tri spawns does anyone know?

I also use a .wav timer in teamgames, but i would still like to see them go if only it was possible.

As for random quad spawn, i hate that

I find using my own ticker in my head far more satisfying in ffa's etc

I use a quad timer wav too - and I wish they weren't being used as it seems to have grown to weapon timers and armour timers - whats next? "The box of bullets near the super shotgun on DM2.wav" ?

Hmm I thought this might start some interesting questions

I think in a FFA the quad timer is a bit unfair, but in team matches they seem to be becoming vital, as virtually every other clan seems to use quad timers now.

Quad timers are good. If only to drop a couple of timely grenades

Auto quad timers are a bit tricky to get right, apparently (haven't actually tried but have talked to people who have) and tend to rely on replacing the existing quad sounds .. but they then rely on being close enough to the quad that Q2 actually decides to play the wav.

Anyway, a much 'better' solution (i.e. one that doesn't feel like cheating because you have to work it manually) is to create a .wav file 60 seconds in length (or grab one of the numerous ones off the net) put this file in a 'sound' directory ( baseq2/sound )

(better solution is to put it in a .pak file using pak explorer, otherwise you'll get a delay while the 1Mb+ file is loaded everytime you play it. see http://www.poweslave.net for a link to pak explorer)

then bind a key to play <file>
e.g.

bind q play timer.wav

my hints: 10 seconds is about the minimum amount of notice you need to get to the quad on most maps .. my timer counts 30, 15, 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (probably don't need the final countdown).

Now learn to run for the quad whenever you hear the timer say "15", and learn to press it whenever you see "quad taken" binds from your teammates or hear it being picked up.

Bind "Quad taken" and "Quad up soon!" so your entire team knows what's going on.

afaik VSE timer requires a modification to the executable .. on the basis that all modified .exe's are a hack too far, I think most leagues have now banned it.
