I just overclocked my Athlon 1.33Ghz to a whopping 1.4Ghz without it exploding.

Temp has risen by only 2 degrees C....

Now onto more serious business, I did actually attempt to tweak it to go a little higher, but it's not happy.

Currently it's configured as an Athlon 1.4Ghz proper:

133FSB
Multiplier of 10.5
VCore of 1.725 (Though VIA HM reports 1.8).

Basically, increasing the multiplier any more yields a blue screen on boot, as does increasing the FSB to 140 Mhz - and my RAM is mismatched brands anyway, so I'm not sure that's a good idea...

Maybe I'll just settle for this...

Can't you increase the CPU FSB and RAM FSB separately ?

I have to concede that I don't know.

It's an Abit KT7a (RAID version).

However, the temp is constant at around 55 degrees right now - aparently you have to add anything up to 30 degrees to get the actual core temp (due to inacuracies in the measurement), which takes me to around 85 degrees core - and the specification gives the max as being 95. I think that for as long as the swelteringly hot weather holds, it might be best not to do this to any extreme - given my lack of funds for new cooling/better case and replacement parts.

Ah well, thanks Xane, and any others who gave this some thought.

Sometimes you can change the divider between the CPU FSB and RAM FSB, pump up the CPU, and drop the multiplier.

Though overclocking isn't my strong-point. I can't stand fan-noise.

Your lucky....I tried to softmenu bios o/c my 1800xp to 2000 with my kg7raid....and had to reset the bios jumper in order to boot (this maybe coz the bios didnt support that clock speed). That cpu temp (via hardware monitor?) doesnt sound too bad. Mine, unclocked is at 39 deg C.

Some athlons require unlocking using the pencil trick. Maybe a quick google ?
