Solo Paladin Template: 101 Str, 101 Con & 400 Hits

I've just read an extensive report on VN Boards indicating that Dex actually has an absolute minimum affect on your ability to block. Bearing that in mind, I've created the following template with no Dex whatsoever.

I know Qui is low, but with a Haste Charge and the Celerity Chant, I ought to be swinging SOK fast enough.

And put some Dex in it pleaseeee, especially if your using shield.

Utter bullshit, how stupid are the Americans, Dex most certainly affects your chance to block, maybe you should test it yourself.

Not sure what your problem is, if it gives people ideas for their own templates then that's a good thing surely?

If you read the post properly, I said has a minimum affect - not that it has no affect. Read the thread yourself - the results speak for themselves.

Dex, Dex-Cap, and +Shield, all helps your chance to block in RvR, its only the %block that doesnt. There's no minimum affect at all, it helps quite alot. You should remake it, with dex.

In the link I just posted - you'll see that the 101+ Dex in the template equates to a 3% to 7% added chance to block. That is not worth the imbue.

If you wanted to, you could put +75 Dex in template and drop a resist, but I'll be buggered if I ever advocate 101 Dex in a Shield Tank template again. MoB and +Shield have a far greater return.

I quite like the template, good overall resists, nice stats (except from dex ofc) etc :)
I would say, try it out tbh.

I can't really see why it's considered a minimal effect, seems to be approx 20% reduction in the number of times the target is hit by dex buffs. I'd have thought that's a big deal ?

Also, just compared it to my old PvE tests, where 137 dex added increased blocking % by about 20%, which is vastly different. Also seems wierd that test went dead for months, just after people said they'd go away and test it.

Anyone interested in testing in game with a large number of duels ?

I'm testing in Diogel against my enhance cleric at the mo. She's only got 243 Str after buffs, though, and seems to be having trouble getting through Darzil's defences before he is buffed (50+13 Shield, MoB IV, 161 Dex - 101 from suit). I dread to thing about after buffed !

Probably better testing against someone with higher melee, but I cannot do both that AND add buffs for the second part of the test.

Anyways...Paly template with more than 80dex...when con/hits are not 100/400 and shield/parry 11/11... is just gimp.

Perhaps mate, but I have only got enough spec points for something like 3 Parry, so I shan't waste imbue adding +11 to that. In fact I cannot, it'd completely gimp me somewhere else.

Ok, the results of the tests Moaning and I did earlier. Testing on Euro Server, patch 1.85.

Attacker is 50 Paladin, 39+15 Slash, 348 Str (with buffs), WS 1533, using a Matter legendary (Malice was trouble, because it affects defenders dex, skewing the results)

Defender is 50 Paladin, 50+13 Shield, 13+13 Parry, 161 Dex (316 in buffed test)

Thanks for posting that - in simple terms then the difference between 75 Dex in template and 101 Dex in template = what in terms of Block %?

Since i remember u saying to me that u solo ... +11 parry will help a lot. The spec u have doesnt matter. Anyways...your choice.

Hint : I got 42+19 and 20+29 parry and i am running mob2 and mop2. I bet thats mostly why i beat u.

How many spec points do Thanes get? You have 50 SC, 42 Shield, ? Weapon and 20 Parry? FFS! ;)

So buffed at 101 Dex I was parrying 21% of your blows, and blocking 58%, so only 27.5% or so got through.

Buffed at 75 Dex I'd expect to parry 20%, and block 56%, so only 29.5% or so got through.

So dropping Dex 26 points would increase damage taken in Melee against a Paladin by about 6.5%.

In a long fight, remember that it's damage taken vs the amount your heal chant heals you, rather than damage taken, that's important, which will increase that difference. In a short fight that's less important.

Even if dex only had a limited affect on block rate (which it doesnt), You will still need it to increase your shield WS so you can actually land slam... It also increases the damage of those slams.

Having soloed alot myself I would have winged helm in there. Stacked with SOM/battler it is a dream on any class.

It does depend on the situation. For this thread and soloing/TOA yes that is right :) for a group paladin on classic however dex >>> hp,con,skills.

Personally I'd keep it high, but then I'm more of an extremes person, and I suggest balance may be more important to a soloer. I've never solo rvr'd, so I wouldn't listen too much to my advice, I can only do tests and give figures.

In pve I've always found on a pally that the critical thing when soloing is that if the amount of damage you are hit for on average is smaller than the amount you restore with heal chant, then your total hits/con/offence is irrelevant, as you'll win in the end (or at worst draw).

In rvr you have other things to take into account, like people with stronger offences who'll beat your chant, but who may be weak enough for you to kill, people who'll simply run away rather than let you take 10 minutes to kill them, and long fights are more likely to get adds.

It does depend on the situation. For this thread and soloing/TOA yes that is right :) for a group paladin on classic however dex >>> hp,con,skills.

Who cares about classic ? :). And i have adjusted my comments to this specific thread...as the poster has told me that he usually soloes...at least on pally.
