SOF2 - No multiplayer

Soldier of Fortune 2http://www.planetsoldier.com/sof2/http://www.planetsoldier.com/sof2/

Ok I know this is very much ahead of schedule but I want an intelligent games conversation on the general forum.

So, Soldier of Fortune 2 then. Looks fantastic even in it's early stages but there has been an announcement that there's going to be no multiplayer on it.

They say that they want to concentrate on making a brilliant single player, and there might be a multiplayer patch later (like Deus Ex), but would it kill them to make a later release date and put in even just a deathmatch?

Discuss (No spam please :D)

Well I quite liked the first game and never once played it multiplayer so it doesn't bother me.

I suppose they figure that since SOF1 never really took off in multiplayer, they would be better off spending time making the single player better to increase sales.
Rather than including an unoriginal death match multiplayer that noone will really play, and certainly wont make them any more money.

Releasing it in a patch would be more likely I think, because they can gauge whether there would be any demand for it.

depends on the release date, doesn't it?
I dont know what percentage of people buying a game will play the multi player version on line. So I guess satisfy them and then come up with a multiplayer patch.Seems ok with me. I'm sure on line gamers will be playing other games on line mean while.
I just hope a game comes out with out an immeidte patch requirement. That will be nice.

Not going to buy it. I don't play single player anymore, nothing cuts it more than Multiplayer. SoF was good but i ain't forking out £30 for a game i will finish/get bored with after a few hours.

To interested in T2 atm (can't see me playing anything else for a long time BTH) so i am not up to scratch on upcoming releases.

TBH I no doubt there will be some nchange of heart since a game without multiplaying ability is really stupid, esp a gun game.

Perhaps they will make an addon, $$$$$$$$$$

Don't you mean first-person-shooter, not gun game?

No I mean gun game as in CS style...not Q3 etc. Whole section is FPS but I tend to think that all REAL gun based games should also have multiplayer.

Remember HL wasn't really multiplayer based...look at it now.

I played the first completed in a weekend and never touched it multiplayer. Like someone else said I don't think there's much point in tacking on a multiplayer mode for the sake of it, it didn't add anything when they did this to Deus Ex. However, if they added a decent co-op mode that would be different and might be worth playing.

Yeah your right, I downloaded the patch and I thought it sucked

Hmmm good point, mebbeh it's not gonna be that bad if they don't release it with multiplayer, although I think they might change their minds...

Deus Ex will be seeing a wicked mod though.

Deus Ex has quite a few mods in the making, your probably thinking about Fantasy X, otherwise know as Deus Sex :p

I think its quite a good decision. The last two BIG FPS' that ive played (NOLF and Deus) did / didnt have multiplayer from the box. Ive tried the mult patches for DE, but its not really a touch on the dedicated mplayer games. Like what was said, a co-op mode woulda owned DE. System shock 2 had it (and that was ace)

As for NOLF, this came with a mplayer bolted on, but it wasnt very good. The weapons were too powerful, and just werent suited for multi play, ala Duke Nukem.

I thing they are wise not including it, as i like good single player fps', that concentrate soley on that.

The days when a game was played for its 'offline' playability is gone! :/
Soldier of Fortune was cool! Both on line and offline, but online just feels like a slow version of quake 2... whilst the single player just ruled!!

Conquerer mate, you don't exactly make sense, one minute you say it's sad that it won't come out with multiplayer support, and the next you say that it's not that much of a loss! Which is it?

Deus Ex multiplayer was good. But havn't played it in a long time. But the single player was so good I excuse it for the average MP. I doubt SOF2 will come up with such an amaseing story line.

maybe not but there are plenty of fps i've enjoyed without ever playing multi-player. i don't get the hundreds of hours out of them that i get out of the multi-player ones but you can only dedicate yourself to one or two at a time and you still need a break to play offline games.
