Erm, dunno much about all this socks stuff. I did have problems running Quake 2 with firewalls, networks and the ilk.
My solution was to add +set clientport 27910 to the command line.
For some reason it was giving me any port except the default which sometimes left me screwed with any kind of connection.
Prolly nothing to do with what your lookin for but worth a try
