I've tried Asherons Call for a couple of hours - bored me silly
I've tried Ultima Online for a couple of days - the same.
I've tried Planetside and am still undecided due to the fact it seems a fairly average FPS game.

What's SWG like and why should I get it?

It is what you make of it. Basically it's very freeform and open, how much you enjoy it is dependant on the type of player you are. It's very geared towards role-playing with a huge potential in that direction. There is not a huge amount of structured gaming in it, they just provide you the tools and the environment and from there it's up to you.

Personally I think it's great.

SWG is hard to start with you play for the rewards and to get them you need to WORK and work hard :)

The usa relese is due this thursday giveing Us beta testers just 2 or 3 more days free play untill it goes P2P

tbh i will have to wait on UK relese a probbly buy it down me local GAME store :D as always.

the land scapes are so good looking but there are many bugs that need working on and many have been fixed with in days of beeing reported, this game so i have been told is much like Everquest with a reskin but i think theres much more to SWG then EQ.

there is a friendly Starwars comunity in the beta test and a lot of people will help you for free if the need so comes.

i mean the outher day a guy was selling scout training for level 1 & 2 scouts for half the price of the guilds then some outher guy said nay i will do it for free LOL undercuting the outher guy by 100% what a game :)

tbh i can't wait to play in my PA cos we will have our own city built from scrach soon :)

P.S.

who would be the guy to put the GAMES played icons n stuff on the player alies stuff? cos it should need updating with a few of the new releses and SWG too :) and maybe some of the comming soon titals too.

Seems to be pretty hard to get into. I still haven't had time to play it much but the few hours I have spent have been slowly picking up to play the game. And probably 90% of that involved running around aimlessly.

I'd only get it if you're willing to put in a large amount of time and patience to give it a fair chance.

DAoC = a hessian sack filled with wriggling eels emptied into the bridal bed of a newly-wed couple of Rosicrucians on the same day as the eels attended a bravura performance by the Appalachian String Band.

SWG = 3 chickens coated in honey, given an intravenous injection of Buckfast and released into a single-decker coach of nuns on their way to the annual Watonga cheese festival.

I think he's caught the real essence there. Nothing more I can really add.

SWG amalgamates most of the decent ideas/concepts from Ultima Online, Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, Diablo 2, Asheron's Call, Anarchy Online, and a few others. It's pretty ambitious, but for the most part pulls it off. Problem is, it's not finished yet. There's a fair bit more work to be done on some fairly fundamental show-stopping bugs, and there are quite a few "nice-to-haves" that needs working on as well. Unfortunately, the dev team ran out of time and had to release in order to turn a Q3 profit. More than any of the others, it will live or die on its community. Ironically, by the time the UK release comes round later this year, most of the problems will probably be sorted.

Played Anarchy Online before DAoC and damn Mythic seemed liek gods in my eyes and still does compared to Funcom(Fuckupcom). And if SWG got the same style as the other SOE game named Planetside but is made like the other MMORPGs I bet this game is really nice.

Its still going to arrive with bugs and like all games bug fixing often breeds more bugs. I personally find some people seem to be getting carried away with the SW relation instead of the games merits.
