Sniping

I have heard loads about this net code thing but how does it actually work?? Now i must admit i am not the best of snipers. I mean, i coudn't hit a peanut a mile away.... wait, that's not a very good example :)

When i am sniping i sometimes fire and i know the little red dot is not on the person but i still hit. I will fire and think 'omg that was crap Powers' and actually kill them. This seems to happen a lot more when i'm using a scout. I have seen it when i have shot and been off the target by at least a metre (in perspective) and i still hit. I am by no means a newbie and i know when i hit/miss someone.

Is this the famous net code, packet loss or moi? What confuses me is that i have played as an slpb, lpb and hpb and i have seen the same thing.

Of course i don't care when this happens, what IS annoying though is when you are sure you hit someone, you have the aim smack bang in the middle of their chest and you miss. :(

Same reason? Does anyone else get this? Why would something like this happen? Maybe i am cheating without knowing it.... i have been accused so many times i sometime wonder myself. :p

Heres how I think what happens (and Im sure Ch3tan will step in here somewhere)

When you fire it "remembers" where your target is as you press the trigger (or mouse click/bind button)

Due to hpb/lpb "lagg" the target may have moved between the time of fire and the hit being recorded.

Therefore, you still get a hit, even if the target isnt where you aimed.

Did i explain that right ???

Thats why yiou get all these lpb twats :D complaining of "bendy" bullets. Go and buy a 56k modem ffs :D

I think this can make you miss aswell, worse the ping the worse off your shot can be if you adjust your cl_latency this will compramise for the time delay by your ping being miliseconds out and you'l find your shots will be spot on but you wont hit when you miss anymore .

I think its for a 300ping set cl_latency -100 , 1/3 of your ping but be sure its - before the number .

For a lpb this wont make as much difference as it will for a hpb because its set up for a 0 ping to start with

This is why i am confused, the LAN i was on was very dodgy and i would get pings of 500+ being bored i would still play for a bit of fun. I have had it loads of time when i have hit someone with a crap ping using an AWP in open grounds and they actually die behind a wall or something like that. muhahaha A 'bendy bullet'

What i am talking about though is it looks like i actually miss the enemy, my target is not on them i fire and still hit them. Has even happend with single figure or sub 20 pings. Is this another form of bendy/magic bullet? Maybe i need some new glasses, its just happened so many times.... not sure why it was.

Lol......... that was a uni LAN for my halls of residence about 400 people. I don't think the network staff there knew what they were doing. At one stage it was like that for weeks. I logged in a complaint.... my gaming was being effected badly, about a week after that i got a knock on the door..... hahaha apparently they had traced the problem to my room!!

I was told that there was a lot of information going in and out of my port and something about packet loss. Of course i didn't have a clue what the guy was going on about. ;)

Ironic, i complained about the poor pings on the netwrok... it turns out that it was me who was creating the bad pings.... and a few other CS/quake players.

I did average under 30 most of the time and i got some ridiculous pings in the morning. 8 was the lowest i saw. Plus it was free so i can't really complain.

Anyway.... more about CS.

Er................... GOOD GAME

Its to do with hitbox problems in CS.
Its also to dowith the fact of lag correction, if you shoot and miss, on your side, on the server side the player may actually have moved into your sights and thus u hit them.

Try www.summerblue.net for the hitbox problems, although some of the ones adressed have been fixed the tohers are being fixed in 1.3

Your CS player has a trailing hitbox when moving as well, which means u can be missed graphically by your opponent but still hit because they hit your hitbox trail while moving.

(I think the above is accurate Meatballs told me about it so i'm sure he can say if its Bs or not).
