Small or Large?

Which do you prefer?

Small maps with no vehicle staions or Large maps with vehicular combat an integral part of the map?

My preference is for the larger maps - I don't like the emphasis placed on single lone-gunman flag-capper ninja's on small maps, I feel it takes away a large part of the potential depth of Tribes2. How many times on a public server hav you played a small map like Riverdance where the game is over in 10 mins 'cos one team has a madskillz samurai capper on who flits in and swipes the flag repeatedly?

Which brings me to another question - what do people think are good defences against these leaping tiger flying flagcappers (on a public server)? Missiles don't stop 'em cos they have the sense (unlike most tailgunners on public servers) to carry (and use) flare grenades. Sniping fast-moving targets is nigh-on impossible, even with 60fps and 30 ping and they're generally too fast for heavies to fusion mortar them (unless the heavy is SHITHOT at target leading & anticipation or just superbly lucky).

I'm not decrying the obvious skill of these flag fairies (not meant as a term of abuse, trust me) but I do find that it's a very one-man kind of thing and detracts a lot from the teamplay element and makes it all feel too much like fucking quake or something.

It depends on who is on the team. If the team is unorganised then the smaller maps are better but if the team knows how to work together than the large maps rock.

I am not talking about people attacking together and everything, but when you are playing and the entire team is defending and not doing anything to help with the cap then I prefere the smaller maps.

No seriously - I like both.

The whole reason I play Tribes is cause if I want to seriously get down to some tactics, I can. Then if want to be John Rambo and do a Quake round the enemy base, I can.

The whole fun in Tribes is its diversity IMO.

Like mantis i like both as you can choose the server with a map you want depending on your mood or the quality of players on it. If it was all big maps and you had a team that will not work together or everyone wants the same job then it is a waste of time. I played Riverdance the other night and capped all of out teams flags as no-one else seemed to want to have a go, the thing that made it most difficult is putting Pulse sensors on/around the flag with Spider turrets either side with landspikes at the probable landing sites. Especially if you are a lone attacker with no HO to back you up and take them out.

I prefer large maps because then u have a larger chance of reaching the flag carrier

Kinda prefer the smaller maps now. When i first started playing i realy enjoyed the larger maps, now i just find them boring. When you have a team playing the nme as all defenders, and a shot shy team yourself, where the only others attacking are all vehicle hogs, then it gets boring. This happens in nearly every online team game, just makes it worse in this one, because you have a 2 min trip back over to the nme base every time:( Some of the medium maps are cool, and the small ones this ain't a problem, but that map with the islands and all the water is realy crap when it happens, makes what could be a good map, realy crap:(

Hmm, I have to say I kind of prefer the smaller maps myself. There's nothing more satisfying that hitting some serious speed surfing across a small, flat-ish map and going on the attack: having to rely on vehicles for everything is a pain in the arse, and you always end up with some muppet who can't fly/bomb. I prefer getting there under my own steam.

In fact, probably the best maps are ones that combine both, like that icy one with the long canyons (not Thin Ice, which I hate). It's flat enough to surf towards the enemy base quite quickly, but there's also plenty of scope for some serious tank/bomber action.

In fact, now that I see it in writing, it's not the map size that's the problem, it's all those bloody hills and ravines!

fastcappers : bodyblock and elf can work wonders at times :)I used to satchel the flag until I detonated one day just as a capper came in & 5 D jumped onto the flag the second I detonated :D

I have to admit I prefer large maps with vehicles, I love piloting the bomber

obvious way to stop a lone skiiing capper is with sniper rifle & ELF. Job done

I like maps, for they way they promote teamplay and are fun, small and large isnt a preference for me. As long as its not a stupid map liek sanctuary then I will play it.

That said I have only played about 5 T2 maps, so I am not one to comment :)

it's not the size of the map, its the ability to grab the flag i think is important.

It's like that ice map were the flag is in the big base, which is near impossible to get out - and once it is theres a massive standoff.

Maps like that suck. You often find that big maps you can get a much greater speed, small maps is less speed, so the time taken to cap the flag is more or less the same :)
