slow startup ?

I've been getting a slow startup using windows98 (I think some of this is mainly due to my home network)....and I noticed some bad filenames coming up while the operating system is loading....these are essentially gobledegoolk (smiley faces etc)....with file not found

I had a look inside my autoexec.bat using sysedit and found repetitive crap...

can I delete these ?

The WIN95 line isn't being executed due to the "REM" function infront of it. The rest looks like crap.

I finally got courage up to delete the crap and the REM line...seems to boot up fine and the sound blaster still works fine ...I assume that last line points to key parts of the OS...so I didn't touch that.

Boot is still slow before the OS loads...after the IDE drives and IRQs are detected...might see if I can find a diagbostic anywhere..

The last part is what allows you to type "telnet" in a DOS prompt, instead of hunting down the telent.exe file, for example.

It won't really affect the boot speed, but I think you already know that.
