Actually Midgards ah so lovely new RvR TL was 1 to stop that.
If name Waterman rings a bell you know why.

Quoting:

vn_squawkingtiger - "I can't speak for the developers or their reasons for changing this, but I was one of the people who requested that the crafted 5.7SPD 2H Axe be changed. There were a few reasons for this, but it boiled down to two things:

- Almost every melee class in Midgard can spec and use 2H weapons, and none of these specs necessarily have superior styles. Because of this, spec'ing is often done based on weapons. Also because of this, certain epic weapons, such as those from TG, were so valued to the point where people who got ahold of one of the slower ones would often go so far as to respec completely to that damage type simply to wield that weapon.

- As mentioned above, a 5.7SPD craftable 2H Axe suddenly makes any player minded in this way see all other weapons (from TG or crafted) as "obselete" and the Sword spec line as "useless" along with Hammer being less attractive

This is evidenced clearly by the number of people who really wanted that 5.7SPD 2H Axe - there's no doubt that if it had gone live, the vasty majority of the players would be using it. Personally I don't think this detraction of other options was necessary.

On a side note, if you run the actual numbers, you will see that your frontloaded *potential* damage will be around 7% more with a 5.7SPD over a 5.5SPD, while your typical frontloaded damage will probably be around 3-4% more. This is a noticeable amount, but it's not a huge difference. Go on a few more TG raids."

The reason the 5.7 Axe was removed is simple, if you think about it.. Waterman has some part of the truth, but doesn't make it very clear --

Every Axe user in the Midgard could use that axe. Including Savages, which would mean that every Savage would use it. While I think it's sad we don't get the axe, I think, in the end it is better, since it would only lead to more Savage nerf-calls. It's just a shame that the rest of Midgard suffers from their success. ;)
