sucks...

Anyone know any wallace and gromit type contraptions that they'd recommend for waking up reliably with? :)

Agree wirh Ormorof 100%

A few loud and annoying alarms a few seconds out of sync with each other placed well away from reach

Set your mobile phone to blast out the Crazy Frog too

Well I set my computer alarm, my phone alarm and my alarmclock for 6 today and then I woke up 10 minutes ago with all of them off :( They're all pretty harsh alarms too but just don't do the job as it's a case of waking up and turning them off then going back to sleep.....I don't even remember doing it, heh. As a result, I now only have 12 hours to do this next bit of coursework.

So let me get this straight:

You have lots of work to do
You set your alarm to wake you so that you would have time to get the work done.
You over sleep
Despite having alot less time to do the work you post on FH about better alarms?

One really loud annoying alarm that is across the room so you HAVE to get up is normally good enough for me.
Drinking alot before bed is another way to make sure you wake up.
Leaving the curtains open so that your room gets light in the morning is another way of helping to wake up. (This relies on normal sleeping patterns)

Edit: What about this: Clocky

all you'll ever need is a good loud alarm across the room, snooze buttons are the work of the devil himselfish!

unless your like one of my mates who had connected his sony alarm clock to his stereo with 2 huge concert speakers, no one ever overslept in his building "well yes exept him..ofc" we once carried him into the bath room and into the tub, and turned on the cold water, he replied by turning it off, turning to the other side and snoozing for another 45 mins, "respect"

Sounds a lot like my roommate... I've even given him one of those puzzle alarm clock. So he have to stand up and get the pieces before it will turn off. He don't care...

I always wake rather easy. I can even sleep a bit at work, since I'll wake up the second the phone rings.

But how about you make some sort of device that will splash cold water in your head when the alarm goes off? Could be a fun project to create such a thing.

I know what the ultimate alarm clock thing would be! Now, I have no idea how to create this, but the plan is quite simple!

1) Speaker with loud anoying sound placed besides bed!

2) Disable button placed on the wall of your shower

3) Same disable button for the speaker connected to turning the shower on with cold water!

Enjoy! :p

What everyone else says about putting the alarm across the room is what I do - I normally wake up a minute or so before my alarm goes off anyway.

If you have to walk 4 steps to get to your alarm to turn it off, normally you'll be awake enough to get up at that point, its just about thinking to yourself "no - more sleep is not what I need", once you realise you'll feel just as shit after "5 or 10 more minutes" its easier to get up, normally thinking about a decent breakfast is enough to get me out of bed too, but then I'm a fat bastard :D

My own fault really anyway. After 52 hours awake I thought I could wake up after 2 hours...turns out it just aint gonna happen. So slept for 6 and have been awake for another 25. All this time staring at a bloody computer screen, programming java then drawing frigging system development diagrams, blah blah blah blah. Normally I'd put it down to my laziness but losing those two weeks for my op made me have to cram or else end up failing :( Just fancied a bit of a moan really but I'm done now...

Anyway, off to bed at last then up for another essay, hoorah!

I once stood up awake for 26hours on a holydays week in Marrakech where i think i slept a total amount fo 7 hours spreaded during the 7 days of my stay.
The day i came back home, i went straight to the shower and then hit the sack and slept for 19hours straight....

Sleeping is prolly one of my favourites hobbies, hhhhmmmmhhhh :p

Can't sleep thru anything when ur knackered :). Putting the alarm across the room can work for a while, but problem is - seems you can get used to almost anything. End up sleepwalking across the room, knocking it off, and going back to bed without even remembering.

I've got my bedside alarm clock with a buzzer and the radio going off fairly loudly one minute later to try and get me up. I've also added in a mobile phone across the room with alarms going off every 5 minutes.

At the moment I tend to turn off the buzzer as soon as possible, and the radio doesn't really wake me up. As soon as the mobile starts going off I get up, turn off the first alarm and bring it with me back to bed whilst I turn off each alarm going off. :(

Maybe I should just go to bed earlier and try and get up at a regular time!
