Slam Question

Normally my slam hardly ever lands.. esp against paladins and other sheild spec meleers..

But last night I was amazed..

Before I was using a DF diamond sheild (just using it until i got my SC sorted) which is 91% ql and 25% bonus.

With 42+15+MoB = 63 sheild

Now im using a 99% ql 35% bonus sheild with 42+15+MoB3 = 75 Sheild

I had 7 duels against a 50 s/s Pally + Merc and I landed slam first time EVERY time..

So the question is.. has the higher sheild skill or the sheild bonus made the difference?

Both, more shield is more WeapSkill for shield styles, and the bonus offers a better chance to hit, I.E no penalties to 35% armour, so if your shield was 35% and the enemies armour is 25%, you'll have a 10% better chance to hit etc. MoB does not directly equate to shield spec, it is only considered as blocking defense.

Ok in that case it must be the bonus then...

So before it was 25%vs35% (epic+SC armour).. no wonder i missed loads :|

Is sheild spec + sheild bonus the only factors in landing styles then?

Dex effects shield damage, so is related to weaponskill for shield styles. Bonus and shield spec also, then you have other stuff like your level vs enemy level etc.

The bonus on weapon affects both damage and to hit.

Higher shieldspecc means higher weaponskill which means higher damage and to hit rate.

Can anyone confirm where the weapon skill for Shield styles comes from? most ppl seem to think it comes from your 1 hand weapon skill, but after some tests it does not appear so tome, but nor does shield bonus% or shield spec (+only)

I tend to hit for 280+ with slam, and you can crit on em

As far as I know, shield spec, amount of bonus on shield and ammount of dexterity are the only factors that affect slam to-hit chance. Don't think 1h melee spec affects it.

Shieldspec, size of shield, quality of shield and ammount of dexterity affects the damage (guess less qui give more dam as well).

With decent buffs and a lucky crit, you may land about 500hps of damage.

No. 1h weaponskill is the determining factor in landing a slam. This is why scouts (with gimp 1h weaponskill) have such a hard time landing it. Shield spec only affects your chance to block.

Grab bag - Camelotherald - 2003-04-04 18:18:13

Q: When using a shield related combat style (Slam, Brutalize, etc), does the game use your current slash/thrust/crush weapon skill as its base (as shown on your character info screen) OR is there a 'hidden' Shield weapon skill not shown on your character info screen (based on STR? & Shield Spec) that it uses instead?

A: It uses your shield skill - which is based on both your specialization level and dexterity.

Mythic might say that shield spec is taken into account but I think that that's total bollocks. I read somewhere that it takes into account your 1h weaponskill (i'll try to find a link).

If what was said in that grab bag was true then why do my usual encounters with assassins go like this...

You prepare to perform a Slam.
RandomAssassin evades your attack.

Bearing in mind that I have 42+13 in shield and 191 DEX unbuffed?

Good point. Could perhaps be that it's easier for pure tanks to land a shield hit, compared to hybrids/rogues as well.

42+16 shield & 182 dex currently.
