Does anyone know anywhere online I could get advice on a simple CV?

I'm currently trying to get a job at Gamestation  and want to parley 7 years experience as a Civil Servant into decent Retail CV. I haven't applied for a job via a CV for years, hell maybe ever actually.

I've never worked in a shop but I'm a deputy manager with experience in dozens of different office based roles so there's got to be something I can transfer to "how to handle a till" ;) but all the advice I've found is for how to get a job as the CEO of Lockhead Martin or some such for pretentious Harvard wannabees.

Tweak the CV to your social attitude. Emphasise on your team-working, how you like meeting new people, helping customers find what they want and now you want to do it with games(because you're a gaming fanatic!)

A Retail Employeer wants to know you're friendly and won't scare away customers. No one starting in retail is expected to know how to work a till, attitude is more important and that's what they'll look for.

There're loads of CV templates around the net you could google for. Though the content is more important than the layout, so long as it's something like:

Personal details:
Education:
Work experience:
Skills:
Interests:
2x Referrences

Swap the education and work experience sections around. I've recruited loads of people and you want to see the experience first unless you're recruiting school leavers or graduate trainees,

Ta lads

Must admit though it makes a refreshing change to apply for a job where an unhealthy interest in playing computer games is a prerequisite not a handicap.

Hell, its actually a tick box on the application form, hehe.

Yeah Gray

They've been around for a few years but now they're popping up like mushrooms.

I reckon it's since Game and EB finally dropped the pretense, merging as one store and becoming completely crap :p

Must admit I really like the shop unlike the above mentioned Game :kissit:

Never really thought about going to work at a store like that, working with games maybe a nice thing to do one day, but usually the money is shite from what i hear so id rather go somewhere if possible were you get decent pay ;o

Gamestation were bought by Blockbusters if I remember rightly. Hence so many popping up. I could be wrong though.
