OK, got home from work on Thursday, feeling a bit ill. Woke Friday with a little rash on me hands and feet, then by the afternoon it was in me throat. Small red and white blisters, sting like hel in the throat and feel like pins and needles ion hands and feet.

Went to the Docs Sat morning and Ive got......................wait for it...............

Hand, foot and mouth virus.

WTFs that all about.

According to the British Medical Associations complete Family Health Encyclopedia:
A common infectious disease of toddlers, caused by a virus known as coxsackievirus. Hand-foot and mouth
disease often occurs in small epidemics in nursery schools, usually in the summer months.....

Dammit, Ive caught a kiddies illness.

:(

Woe is me.

Does that mean you're going to get a bolt gun to the head and cremated on a large pyre?

"cock-sack-virus?" You 'avin' a laugh? Who do you think we are?

Rest up, Wilier and THINK OF THE CHILDREN! Lock yourself away in your computer room for the good of the family for several days. No work for you! Epidemics on oil rigs are NotGood.

Come play OpFlashpoint for a week. :)

I got croup about two years ago :( That was embarrassing. I sounded like a distressed seal.

Apparently usually only little kiddies get that too, so I can sympathise.

I'm still laughing at the girl who has "school phobia" who was on the news recently. She gets the shakes, panic attacks and shit. Sounds like my normal Monday morning ;).

If I had told my old man I had school phobia back in the days when I was a schoolkid he would have gleefully belted me :).

croup is a virus [iirc] that does well in young childeren, especially infants.

A pathological condition of the larynx, especially in infants and children, that is characterized by respiratory difficulty and a hoarse, brassy cough.

it also seems to be the part of a four legged animal that analogs to the human tushie, but naturally I wouldn't dare mention that to D heh :)

This is what I found......

Croup is an infection that causes the trachea (windpipe) and larynx (voice box) to swell. It is usually part of a cold.

Mild illness may be treated at home with supportive measures. Parents should stay calm -- this will help the child to stay calm.

Warm or cool humidified air should be provided. A hot shower can provide warm steam, and the child can be held in the bathroom for 20 minutes. (Do not place the child in the shower.) Taking the child outside in the cold air is often helpful

Croup symptoms most commonly occur in children 1 to 3 years old.

Yes, the croup is The Illness to have when you're still fresh from the womb, but its not so cool when you're 21. My mother (who is a nurse) found it HYSTERICAL and told everybody. The joys.

That bit about trying to get the kid to stay calm... lol... try staying calm when every time you cough it sounds like you've inhaled two mating Mooses! It is _not_ an easy task.

Guess me and Wilier are just to damn special for conventional illnesses.

Wanna go splits on a bottle on Calpol Wilier?

more suprising he hasn't been caught... just make sure you stay away from railway lines willer m8 ;)

I had bronchitis at the age of 14, was pretty damn serious too - I had a really odd cough at the same time which sounded much like what damini described (should we start a support group? :p) so I guess I was also possibly a croup sufferer bah :/
