Siege - does anyone actually play this

ok spammers discuss :)

Personally i think Siege is too much like UT Assault - unbalanced mod that can be a) over in 1 min on certain maps or b) long drawn out stalemate.

Seems to have died a death already - although its included in the T2 Euro ladder, I haven't noticed one team pick a Siege map.

What do u lot think? is it the "defend and destroy" of Tribes 2?

NB- for non T1 players D&D was as exciting as watching Forfar play Fife :p

Yeah, I tend to find that a siege map is either over in about 30 seconds (usually cuz I sneak in and hit the switch) or goes the full time, and gets very boring.

I suppose if there were some better or more varied maps than those included with Base, then it might become interesting, but still, I'm not sure.

I have been in one or two "good" siege games, but they tend to be the exception rather than the rule :(

I think its a good game type but fails simply down to the maps. Since its new, Dynamix aren`t to know until everyone tries it, but carefully designed maps could make for some cracking games.

Imagine a map where you had maybe a tight canyon with outposts along it. Goal is a long way down one end but you have to take the 5 outposts one after another gradually pushing the defending team back and yours forward. The stronger team is going to slowly push them back, the defending team has nothing to do and nowhere to go so they are effectively forced into playing properly and pushing the offenders back down the valley. Just an example. People aren`t going to focus if its a go anywhere, do anything type of map. Too many clowns on ones side bang, its over.

I used to play in the UTassault league which was extremely popular (still has 5 divisions). What really set UT assault apart from T2 seige was the maps, all had their own theme and story, every map had its own objectives, not all were necessary to complete but made it easier, i.e. gettin you a closer spawn point or opening up a shortcut to end point. As far as i can see with T2 its just, get the gens then the final switch, ya just cant comapre this to UT levels like runnin across a high speed train roof or some of the newer maps like Bridge which had about 10 objectives.

As someone said, its all about the maps, all in all the basic T2 maps, there are alot of really poor ones. While T2 does have the ability to run server side custom maps, at the same time i think this will discourage mappers to come up with origianal maps with iheir own prefabs which T2 seige really needs to make it interesting.

It's not about maps, it's about league vs public play. The existing Siege maps I reckon could work well in a clan-game/leage situation where people knew the maps, worked together as a team to acheive the goals etc etc. Not gonna happen on a public server where anything more complex than grabbing a flag or plopping some landspikes down is a pipe-dream so therefore people don't get good Siege games (like thingy said - they last 2 mins or go full time and bore everyone rigid) so people think Siege sucks etc etc blah blah.

Personally i think they'll be worse in matches. A good tribe can defend them easily.

answer to original Question is: No :)

Now go back to AO Xtro ;)

that was another thing, UT assault maps were never more than 10 mins long max time limit (usually 5). If ya havent broken it by then, then youll only get through if your lucky. 25-30 time limit on T2 maps is a bit silly. they should lower the time limit and have 3 or 4 rounds on the one map to stop people constantly reloading new maps.

I love seige, but it is just so hard to find a populated server playing a fun map.

Yeah seige is going the same way as D&D 30 secs a map one way and 30 mins bordom on the revese.

Lose the Siege and give us back the Bounty server that disappeared after only about 2 weeks use, especially as there are NO other Bounty servers in Europe..
