SI does not relinquish internet connection when closed down

Well, at least i'm pretty sure that is what hapens.

If I log into SI, then log off, then try to access any program that makes use of the internet connection (IExplorer, Outlook...) the connection times out: the software can't see the internet is up and running.

I know however that I am still connected, for if I launch SI again there is no problem and it finds its way to the server without a glitch.

The only way I can restore my connection to all my software is by rebooting my machines.

I use WinXPHome edition on one machine, WinXP Pro on an other, connected to the internet through a router and an ADSL connection.

Any tip/advice out there would be most appreciated.

Do you stop messenger from running before you log into DAOC? I know I do to prevent all the annoying net sends I keep getting that crash the game.

I guess that would do it?

The game does not crash, and as I use Sidewinder on one machine I know that is not the problem.

All I'm saying is that it does not shut down properly when I exit it, in that it still maintains its grip on the internet connection and no other program can use it.

that would be fairly strange, I cannot think of any program that graps exclusive use of your bandwith (other then download managers that just fill it :p )
it might be a problem in your firewall configuration?

Firewall I use is the free version of ZoneAlarm, though I must check the firewall on the router and the modem...

WinXP has a built in firewall too, you should disable it if it isnt already.

I didnt mean your game crashes but that when I receive a net send it drops me to desktop because the messenger service gets the focus. To stop this i do a net stop messenger but I reckon if i then try to go on the internet or use outlook it would have problems.
