Righto, after having a few probs with the temps in the last few days whith it killing itself in game etc etc, i decided it was time for a look see. To my surprise the level of dust in it was at least 4 times as much as in my oldy comp sitting right next to it.

No idea why but i cleared it out and now from having around 53c idle its down to 31 :D this is with a 3000+ XP and a phat radeon 9800 pro.

Anyway just saying u shuttle owning ppl clear it out!

On that note im considering changing the fan at the back any suggstions on better/quieter models.

Hi Deadmanwalking.

Is your system based around the SN41G2? If so, I know some of the Shuttle models (that one included) come with a lot of holes in the chasis to facilitate the cooling, though I'm surprised there was so much difference to a more enclosed system.

As for the fan, I believe there are a few, non-official replacements available. Whether they are true improvements, however, remains to be seen. The Small Form Factor Forums over at Hexus had quite a few discussions about this very topic (well, they did when last I checked, though you made to search now). However, short of some pretty extreme measures, I doubt the noise level can be decreased all that much.

Kind Regards

Jonty

P.S. I'm glad you got such power-hungry components to run in a Shuttle, since there was some worry the systems couldn't handle it. Well done! :)

My Shuttle SN51G runs cooler than my old tower case with two extra case fans. Which I find odd :/

Thx Jonty: Yeah the PSU is humming along NP andn ow its all nice and cool. As for the airflow prob the little holes on each side are useless LOL.. my gfx card blocks one side and the psu takes most of the other.

Bodhi: same spec?

The extra dust will be to the number of objects that block air flow etc.

oh, right, silly me. I first thought Bods meant he had an 3000XP whereas he actually said that his old case and his new shuttle have the same cpu. I stand corrected :)

:D

(I'd rather gouge out my intestines with a rusty spoon than buy an AMD tbh)
