Should I be worried

... the cats drew my attention to a wasp-like insect in my flat the other day (bearing in mind it's still January), I killed the fucker. Then today when I was up my loft resetting my boiler I observed something that looks suspisiously like a nest.

What do you think? Wasp? Hornet? Worry?

Looks too furry to be a wasp

Maybe its a hornet, or one of those evil bees that have come from Africa

That goop is either from the insect or its from a nest being made, the chew wood and paper to make a pulp stuff, kinda looks like that

The wetness is because I sprayed the fucker with half a can of fly and wasp killer. As for the size - I'd say it was 25-30mm long and in perfectly good health before it got it's spraying.

It was probably a hibernating queen bee, which you've just killed. I had one in my loft this time last year, I let it out and it flew away - into the cat's mouth I think.

Now you need to kill that nest. With extreme prejudice. Phone your local council.

About bugs....finland winters ain't that "warm", but none the less, a spider was walking on the wall of my house. Outside! Thought to myself "what a strong fecker" before giving it a bit of warmth with my zippo.

To tell the difference between a honey bee and a wasp, you need to look at the stripy yellow and black bit. I'm no expert, but from what I remember about this, wasps have a pattern on this area with the black bit being wavey lines with dots, where as honey bees have a straight yellow and black stripe.
