Career stats: Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney has been shortlisted for the Fifa World Player of the Year award which will be decided in December.
Rooney, 18, is one of 10 players from the 35 contenders who play their football in the Premiership.
The teenager's Manchester United team-mates Ruud van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs have also been nominated for the prestigious honour.
Thierry Henry, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, David Beckham and Michael Owen are also on the list.
Rooney burst onto the world scene with his impressive performances at Euro 2004 where ehe scored four goals.
He captured the imagination as he helped England to the quarter-finals where he had to limp off injured in the first half before England went on to lose on penalties.
Rooney moved from Everton to Manchester United during the summer and recently returned to action in spectacular style by scoring a hat-trick on his United debut against Fenerbahce in the Champions League.
Only Ronaldinho has a realistic chance against Henry

Jonaldo said:Odd isn't it how we applaud how footballers from poverty stricken countries can use football as a way to earn success and make something of their lives, but when an English lad does exactly the same we chastise him. He may not have had a great upbringing and doesn't have the capacity to become a scientist or doctor, so this means he can't be good at something else?
Get real. He has a talent, let him use it.
Perhaps concentrate on trying to achieve something rather than berate other peoples achievements.
