Try picking up a copy of They Call Me Judy Cum And I Love It Up The Bum. Its out in paperback just now and is an amusing array of feminist diatribes about our patriarchial hegemonic society.

The sequel Pissflaps is out soon in hardback I think.

to be serious though the best, by far, short story book is the dubliners by james joyce. Or you could go for acid house by irvine welsh (some of them are really weird.)

well if you're been serious then: Angela Carters short stories are pretty good; a lot of them are rewritten fairy tales with a more bizarre twist.

so let me get this straight...

you read english books.
you read english forums.
you see english words presumably everyday.
you understand the majority of these words.
you see how these words are spelled.

for some unknown reason you cannot remember any of these millions of words you see, read, comprehend. words like 'good' and 'like'.

i wonder why people think you're either a totally spacked out freak, or a reg taking the piss.

or both.

I've just finished a book with 2 short stories. It's called Diamond Dogs, Turquoise Days. Strange Sci-fi about a tower with puzzles and a sentient plant thingy.

The Elephant Vanishes, Haruki Murakami. Very, very odd. Not his best either I might add, but the only short stories I know of by him.

Philip K Dick actually.

And yes, he wrote a lot of short stories, very good.

He wrote minority report as a short story didn't he?

Apparently he was totally paranoid that the govenment was after him :\

Probably one of the best shortish stories I have read was The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks - his imagination never ceases to amaze me.
