Shields?

Alright... I tried to do some research on shields now that I rolled two melee chars but didn't get any real information out of it.

Shield size - does it really matter what size your shield is? And if - how does it matter (do you block more?)

Player crafted shields - does the quality of the shield have any impact (shield styles, right?).

What a n00b I am :D

Size, affects dps, speed and number of opponents blockable. Small shields are light and fast so you get cheap slams, but can only block 1 person. Medium can block 2, large 3. I forget which gives a harder hit out of heater and tower, you'd have to check that yourself. ;)

Quality affects styles for certain, I'm not sure about block rates. Dexterity and spec are more significant there.

Small shield block against 1 enemy
Medium shield block against 2 enemies
Large shield block against 3 enemies

I tried both GA shield and pl crafted duskwood, and im convinced i blocked more with the duskwood. 99%

Shield size also affects the amount of endurance shield styles use.

quality affects blockrate

also, it's not the number of opponents you can block, but the number of attacks per round.
which, ofcourse equals opponents unless you face a dual wielder.

In Middy there are 2 types of large shield. Just look at the shield weight, the more it weighs, the more dmg it will do with styles.

And like Soulcatcher said, a large shield will block 3 hits per round. Medium 2 hits per round and small 1 per round. So a shield spec tank with a medium shield could potentially block all DW/CD/LA hits :)

However, I seem to remember arguing with a scout (me, arguing with an archer, never! :p ) because he said that shield speed (not displayed) not only controls swing speed (i.e. slam with a small shield lets you use other styles more quickly than with a large shield) but also the # of blocks you can do per round. Unconfirmed though, as I can't bring myself to play a scout.

An another thing I have noticed with my cleric, I got a shield with emeralds from DF, I suspect it is very, very purple. But I noticed my block rate go way up from my blue cons 100% qual shield. Maybe there is a bug where shields that are too powerful don't negatively effect chance to block ?

as far as I know this isn't true. shield speed only affect shield styles.
it's one of the problems scouts have with their shield. as they can only block 1 hit per round from a DWer

I am pretty sure tower shields are the best at dealing damage since they are normally the biggest.Heater shields tend to usually be small shields.

not so sure about higher quality blocking, but lvl50 crafteds have the 35% bonus...
