I thought I would share ths with you lot seeing as how a few of you like curious incident. Shantaram now rates as one of the best books I have ever read. It has made me laugh, cry and I have never been more amazed by a work of non-fiction.
It is the true story of a man (the author himself) that becomes one australia's most wanted men who escapes from a high security prison and flees to India (bombay to be precise). The book begins with his landing in Bombay and encompasses his life from his time setting up a make-shift hospital in the slums through his period in the bombay mafia.
It is an adventure story on a truly remarkable scale and the fact that every word of it is true makes it all the more amazing. I insist that you all read this. It weighs in at a hefty 1000 pages but every page is worth it. I have over simplified the story due to fat fingers but there are plenty references to the book on the web.
Have fun.
