jackie chan is crap

KNEW there was a reason we didn't get on ;)

Owen Wilson rocks IMHO - provides the perfect foil for Mr Chan's obvious talents and if screen presence is anything to go by then it looks like they get on in real life.

Both films are nice throwaway fun which brought a smile to my face.

Mr Chan has "obvious talents"? What are they then? Being shit at martial arts? Dripping with cheese?

Chan is an actor first. Martial Artist second.

We have been through this before. He was trained to do silly martial arts acrobatics after being selected to star in his first chinese film.

imo he's shit at both.

Well, most people in China seem to think so, and seeing as they know more about martial arts than you, I'm inclined to agree.

Not everyone in China does Martial Arts of any variety. A western Martial Artist could easily know as much as the oriental equivalent.

Jackie Chan is an excellent inside KunFu expert. Leggy is correct Jackie deliberately produces "Comedy" family films. Jackie was one of the first to film multiple attacks, before this all films had a one on one feel to them. Actors such as Jet Li who star in fast action films give the illusion of enormous power and form. But how many would still think this if they changed to "comedy".

If this were the case then Steven Seagal would be the ultimate kung fu mastah.

Nail, head, tbh.

Not only has bodhi canvassed "most of the people" in China, but (and even if this ludicrous notion were the case) since they're all martial artists (because they're Chinese obviously) they have a authoritative opinion on him!

Madness.

Chan kicks ass to be honest - he may not be Chinas ultimate kungfu mastah but he has more ability/skill in his fingernail than all of us put together. Frankly any of us calling Chan "shit" or otherwise is about as valid as me questioning Muhummed Ali's "dodgy jab".

Steven Seagal doesn't do KunFu and therefore couldn't be a master anyway. But in the art of Kempo Steven Seagal does indeed rank highly.

Jackie Chan has at least 4 2nd grade black belts. So, he's obviously shit.

Seagal reached Master level at both Kempo and Aikido. He's a shit actor sure, and his skills certainly seem to have "faded", but you can't deny he got to a considerable level.

I love the way people who've never thrown a punch or kick in their life dismiss people with skills thousands of times as great as theirs. It's a bit like calling Michael Schumacher a shit driver because he might make the odd mistake at 170mph when you've never raced competitively in your life.

Shame Bodhi didn't catch SARS whilst he was out chatting to all those chinamen.

Jackie Chan learnt (well, learning because you can never stop learning martial arts) martial arts at the same school he was trained in the performing arts, the Peking Opera School.

And to claim Jackie Chan is "shit" is absolutely fucking hilarious. Regardless of whether or not he started learning martial arts after he was being taught as a performer (not that it hugely matters, he was taught in the same place at the same stage of his life, at the very most there were a couple of years inbetween) he knows a several forms very well, and would kick the living shit out of the majority of people on this planet, including those that do martial arts.

One thing you've also got to remember is the only thing you're basing the fact he's "shit" on bods is what he performs in his films. If you weren't such a lazy armchair critic you'd realise there's a huge wealth of difference between film enterainment, and martial arts. If you need pointing out what these huge differences are, may I suggest you obtain a proper definition of martial arts.

For sure, he's not the greatest, he's not the purest, he may not be a dedicated martial artist of the greatest calibre, but he is very fucking good. You cannot rate those that are famed for martial arts on their martial arts. Firstly (I'm guessing here, but I'm probably right) because you are not a master sensei in several forms of martial art and therefore know nothing in the matters of technique for all forms so you couldn't possibly judge. Secondly because those that are the "true" martial arts beasts that Chan is removed from have no spotlight, and want no spotlight. It seems you want and require true martial art realism and skill in martial art films: this will never be the case, stop being so idealistic.

Frankly, its fucking insulting to listen to it.

Even if I did martial arts to some basic level of competency, I wouldn't go around throwing statements of fact around about people who have taken it to the highest level. It's even more outrageous when said people are the complete antithesis of the thing they're insulting.

Armchair critics eh? Always an expert on everything.

Because that makes total sense doesn't it. Chan must've started learning martial arts after he got into acting! Forget about the years of disciplined training, etc.

As crazy as it sounds, could it be that he simply is a very competent martial artist who became a Hollywood icon because he happens to have charisma and comic timing, etc?

Jackie Chan is an entire industry in China. Apparently you can go to Jackie Chan theme parks. He also has a model agency.
- Well according to Kingfat Chung an old school friend of mine.
