Im trying to decide which of these 2 classes to play, Primarily I want to be healing in group RvR. Id like to hear from anyone who has played both classes at higher levels then i could reach in OB what you thought of them and how they performed in the healer role.

It would be nice to toss in some damage/CC when the opportunity arises and id prefer to not be totally gimped when it comes to solo grinding/levelling.

The main difference between shaman and zealot is the same as the difference between runepriest and archmage.

Shaman and Archmage are 'hybrid' healers. In that they can heal reasonably well but also do not bad ranged dps. Zealot and Runepriest can heal a lot better than shaman/archmage can but do really quite poop dps.

The above is only based on level 1-15 tho.

RPs/Zealots choose which type of healing/damage to specialise in (single target nukes/heals, dots/hots or group heals/aoe nukes)

archmage/shaman have a heal line, a damage line and a debuff line.

RP/zealot will have a larger range of heal spells, and if you spec in the single target heal line probably heal more on a single target.

Archmage/Shaman have to balance their damage/heals but RP/Zealot damage didn't seem far off in beta at level 31 (in fact the RPs in my group were nuking harder than my archmage, they specced in single target nukes, I specced in the damage line...)

I think it depends on the players how much and how well their classes heal. An Archmage on the move can easily outheal the other classes you've mentioned. It also depends on the scenario/open rvr layout/amount of damage/level of enemies a lot.

Too many factors really to make a broad statement, the stats itself at the end of a scenario have little meaning. I come on top of the heal stats 95% of the time with 5 times the damage of the other classes you've mentioned. And I just spam HoTs for the win... with the occasional single target heal or morale emergency heal :drink:. The might be the strength of the AM in comparison, at low levels he has already 3 HoTs (one does also damage and the other has a strong first tick) and a single target heal.

I like the Zealot alot too though, the seems to have more instas which makes it more suitable for kiting.

hmm I dont quite gasp these 2 classes yet. I had a shaman in beta (t1) and now I have a level 18 zealot.

But I can't help but feel that the shaman is a better healer, both when playing the classes and when looking at the spell lists.

IMO Shaman is the better "Oh crap...DPS spike"-moment healer. I usually shift between damage and healing spells quite a bit. So once a DPS spike hits a poor sod, there is a good chance that I have some Mork Waaagh built. That sometimes saves people. I can cast the big heal in 1.2 to 1.8 seconds and give the other healers time to stagger their stuff on the receiving end of the assist train.

However I think playerskill matters much much more than class choice. Play whatever you are more comfortable with, that ll help the most in the long run.

I agree with Dee really, need to play the class and see how it feels to you.

I'm really enjoying being a shaman atm, best played by dropping between dps/healing to really max your potential.

I'm normally sat at the back in scenarios, spamming dots at anything that moves in range just so I can bung maxed out dot heals/damage absorbs/heals on whoever needs them (grouped or not). I'm pretty much constantly casting something.

Good fun.

zealot, as a bright wizard (me) nuking the crap out of one dotted up to the max still won't die.

The tactic "Run Away!" that shamans get at lvl ~21 is amazing. I don't know if any other classes get it but I basically never died anymore.

25% chance when hit that you will get a 30% improved run speed buff.

I can kite melee players till they die, they never catch up :D (especially since you can remove the slow with your decurse thingy).

Atm im a 26 Shaman and specced/geared for healing and i really love the spec, its fun and i got quite alot of utilty spells aswell. Group heals + hots really does amazing amounts of healing, and i can even survive being focus fired quite well due to the 2 hots and shield combined with knockback to get mele of me :)

Atm im not using the Run Away! tatic since i rarely feel the need to run, i just cover and go on with the healing, works better for me that way :)

Yup im a level 27 Shaman, and i gotta say Shaman finally beginning to come into its own. I of course also have RUN AWAY as tactic and the one that males my Strenght Debuff AOE. So im a debuffer, healer and use my spells to finish of the weaker foes. So i never get to relax either always something being fired off. :m00:
