Hello all,

I have a shaman now on mid excal.......

Do you need more buff bots in the realm or do you need the offensive type of shaman. I need a good idea on some specs please Im a total newbie and Cata seems to be broken. Can these guys rezz at all and what changes does anyone know of in 1.52.

Ohh and Im a kobbie :). Any advice on base stats I did 5st 5 con 10 piety and I think I split 10 into dex and quick not sure tho.

As much detail as possible is needed friends...... I did a search earlier and couldn't haul up any advice.

Cheers All

1. don't be a buff-bot, besides being loathed by the rest of the healer community you won't have much effectivness outside of buffing

2. i got a shammy going and i did

Pie +15 (20 points)
and dex +10 (so urmm.. 10 points :) )

and i'm speccing him so that his cave is one lvl below his actual lvl (i.e. - when he's at lvl 10 his cave is lvl 9) thats cause of the stupid 1 for 1 spec points that shammy's, healers, runies and SM's i guess i could have gone all cave till i hit 40 but that just isn't practicial in my eyes.

dunno how you'd want to do this but i aim to keep cave one below my lvl then put all my other spec points into mend (i did put a few in aug so i'd get the base shammy specific buffs) till it's at 26 (for the group frigg) then put aug up all the way. i think when i did it on catacombs i have

cave: 49
Mend: 26
aug: 18

somthing like that, i guess it depends on how you want to play

Cave = good offensive dot's and stuff (PB AE shite cloud to name one :D) good for solo and small groups, not great for large groups but you can get by

Mend: Good heal's but shammys can't really compare to healers in this so maybe not too good an idea the only good thing in this line is the group frigg

Augmentation: uber buffs, and thats about it. i'm prejudice cause i hate buff-bots though :)

playing a shaman can be really fun with a high cave magic... and imo best way to spec a shaman is:
Cave: 49
Aug: 22
mend:8 just the rest of the point...

Ah, reminds me,

My shaman is retired at level 12, and now del.
Cave is lovely, but i found myself healing most of the time,

So am now a healer, Loven it, Good heals, POM!!!, and kick ass CC,

Anyway, my point is,

Whats a good healer spec?

Hi,

Not sure whether it is worth taking cave to lvl 49 to be honest, the only new spell you get at 49 is the last root, the points would be better spent elsewhere.

My final spec is:

Mending 18 gets you the Major Reparation heal. I get a consistant (although still poor) 215, 3 second cast time Power efficient heal, the base line heal has too much variance and my heals at lvl 45 with the baseline range from 130 to 210 at a higher mana cost that the spec'd lvl 18 heal. The high variance of the baseline would have meant lots more dead Tanks. You also get a decent Frigg (great in Rezing the dead in RvR as you can res someone and frigg them and then they are get up and running again with as little as possible mana burn.

Augmentation 21 gets you the fifth dex quick buff, which helps you cast faster (very important if you are a Troll), I would like to put more points in this line but, with 1x that isnt going to happen

Cave 46 This gets you the final AOE Dot, it misses out the last disease and root, but i dont think the extra points are worth the sacrifices in the other lines. The last AOE dot gives you a powerful weapon in Keep defence and attack, but dont use it in Normal RvR is you have a healer near as it breaks Mezz

I would also say that if you are lvling your character in groups for the endgame (main RvR) and not the battlegrounds , get your Mending and Augmentation to 18 and 21 as fast as you can, leave cave til later as the others will help you more and your group more. If you are going to solo lots then you will need to build your cave up or you will find it harder as you will have a poor bolt and high variance/resists on your root and DOT.

Lastly if you are going to play in the Battlegrounds a great deal you might want to get your Cave up high to begin with, 17 cave gets you a 31 damage a tick AOE dot and 23 Cave gets you a 41 damage one, just remember that you will be less use to a group and may find it harder to level in groups if you go Cave this early.

Anyway thats just my opinion and how i have found my shammy, above all, spec how you want to, but make sure you get the most out of the lines you want, look a Catacombs and the herald and see what spells you get at what levels..

It all depends what type of healer you want to be.

If you want a zillion buffs and are average at everything, go for m27 a27 p38 (all instas - radius ok, good heals, faster running, nicer buffs)

If you want to be a mezzing beast and get the best POM too, m24 a5 p48 is the way to go (all instas - awesome radius, best POM and very good heals)

I'll be respeccing to the 2nd one when we can, I am currently specced as the first one :)

If you want to Mend more - go up to 30's ish, if you want to hit harder and get more resistance buffs, get aug high, but if you want to be useful in RvR and have Runeys love you, go for the PAC Beast option.

My 2 pennies worth

I disagree.

going to 46 cave is about as far as you should go...this gets the best AOE root. Going to 49 gives you a slightly longer duration aoe root and a slightly more powerful pbaoe disease...not worth it imo. The points are better spent elsewhere.

My spec is 41 cave 27 mend 22 aug. I gave up best aoe and damage shield to have the group frigg at 26 mend and a slightly better single frigg at 27 mend. The difference between the 36 cave aoe and 46 cave aoe is not much on delving, so the chance to keep party alive with good friggs offsets the extra damage from 46 cave easily. 41 cave gets the best bolt which I would not trade for anything else....its a killer. Blue con casters drop one shot a lot and yellows when followed by DOT.

The dots alone won't kill tanks, but you can hurt them along with disease. The way to make RPs as a shaman is to have a combination of offence and defence. Offence in bolts/dots and the trusty aoe root, with defensive friggs to keep you and party alive. And I stress party...the shaman is not a Charles Bronson solo merchant.

I've got 310K RP to back my opinion up.

Another commendable spec is going for 2nd best group frigg (I know a leading shaman who has this spec: 35 mend (? whatever for 2nd frigg) 36 cave (2nd best aoe) rest aug). It's nice too, but more defensive. Difference is losing the big bolt though.

When respec comes I may test 46 cave 28 aug 8 mend to see if it's viable, but to be honest I gain enough RP/do enough damage with 2nd best aoe I'm not sure I wanna respec.

PM me in game if you need further advice.

Shammies are fun little buggars, I will respec mine (today Aug:37 Mend:26 Cave:29) to

Katod the Blue/Green little man, aka 'da Envenomist' (v1.52):

cave:46 - this gives you the best aoe dot, your main weapon in mg/keep defenses. I don't think taking cave higher is a good idea.

mend:26 - this gives the first group frigg, something very useful when defending a place and people can retire and let the frigg work. Frigg is really only good for out-of fight healing, but then it really shines.

aug:10 - what is left, but still gives decent combo-buffs (str/con + dex/qui). Aug has big problems as taking it higher then 37 is totally pointless as the 36/37 combo buffs are almost identical to the higher ones, and the conc they take makes it impossible for you to buff a whole party of 8 with it anyway, so taking aug higher then 28 for anything but buff botting pointless imo.

RAs: Itchor+aug acuity II+WA iV+serenity+mystic crystal lore will require r5l2 something .....

If you are more of a generalist:

Cave:37 Aug:28 Mend:27 looks very solid to me.
