Severe lag on all servers

I played DAoC during last summer without any lag, but this summer is much different.

I have just recently resubscribed to Dark Age of Camelot (2 days ago) but I find that the game is completely unplayable. I am so lagged that when I attack an enemy it says that it is too far away because it has moved several meters since I attacked. NPC's disappear for about 30 seconds and reappear as if they were never gone. I can't enjoy the game at all like this.

I more than meet the specifications on the back cover. I have a 56k modem and my ISP is Esat and I live in Ireland. If it hasn't changed by the end of the month I will not be resubcribing.

Please help!

i have broadband and have no problem at all, lag is quite minimal, SI helps abit too.

can get quite cheap broadband in most places nowadays, maybe you should try that?

if that doesnt work make a /vidreset macro and use it every now and then to reduce lag

do a trace route, or get a program like Neotrace express

trace the server IP's

Prydwen IP: 193.252.123.13
Excalibur IP: 193.252.123.33

this should show where the problem is

This is what I got from using Neotrace.

This is the RIPE Whois server.
The objects are in RPSL format.

This is what I got using the traditional DOS method.

C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\tracert 193.252.123.33

1 * * * Request timed out. (It said this for 1 through to 13)
14 172 ms 156 ms 157 ms (This was the only one that gave numbers.)

I would like to get broadband but it is not available cheaply in Ireland. Also, I shouldn't hve to get broadband as it worked without lag last summer.

I hope this trace route will help determine my problem.

actually that isnt weird :p netherlands - usa line is a real good line. So it might look weird, but it is apparently the fastest line :).

Bizarre question here maybe but are you guys running a persistent virus checker like PC-Cillin?

I had a very similar problem to you with morphing mobs, NPCs vanishing and just generally an all round feeling that may game was lagging 10 seconds behind the actual gameplay. And I was running ADSL via a Router with a new gfx card/memory/mb etc.

Fixing the times when the virus checker updated so it wasn't running constantly all the time fixed it for me.

I'd also suggest posting this in the technical forum and maybe in the tech forum section of BW as well, not just in the DAoC tech forum.

I live in Belgium and had the same problem, I connected to the French servers via 14 hops in New York, altho the servers are right next door. I contacted my ISP and told them about it, and since then they've been connecting me via London. Ok, this still seems weird maybe to connect from Belgium to France via England, but my connection has been a lot better since ;)
